(A). G.A. Henty's historical fiction, With Clive in India, describes the period between the arrival of Clive in India and the end of his career and is lively in the extreme. Initially, the English were traders who relied on the acceptance of nearby princes; they were experts of Bengal and much of southern India.The author has given a full record of the events of that exciting time. The book follows real historical events, revolving around the battles, attacks, and military campaigns of Robert Clive in mid-18th century India, when the English, Dutch, and French East India organisations were all competing for business and regional authority in the profitable Indian subcontinent.

 

(B). Three Soldiers is a 1921 novel by American author John Dos Passos. It is one of the best American war novels of World War I and remains a classic of the war novel genre. Three Soldiers shows the lives of a trio of Army privates: Fuselli, an Italian American store administrator from San Francisco; Chrisfield, a farmboy from Indiana; and Andrews, a musically gifted Harvard graduate from New York. This novel was renowned as a masterpiece upon its original publication in 1921. Three Soldiers is an investigation into the grasping themes of fear and ambition, obedience and rebellion, desertion and violence, and the severe and dehumanising impacts of a regimented war machine on ordinary soldiers.

 

(C). The Red Badge of Courage : The story takes you to the Civil War when a Union regiment rested and camped along a riverbank for weeks for a war. Henry Fleming who is a teenager joins the army because of his love for the army but finds himself in the middle of the battle against the Confederate soldiers. In the battle, Confederate soldiers charge but are repelled by the Union. But soon Confederate soldiers charge again. Henry is terrified and leaves his comrades. He goes to a jungle where he finds a body decaying, while escaping from the place he finds a group of injured soldiers returning from the war. They ask Henry to show his wound. He tries to run from that place but things come in disarray. A soldier hit him with his rifle on his head. Exhausted, hungry, thirsty, and now wounded he decides to go back to his regiment. He faces shame and hatred from another soldier. He has to prove himself to get back his respect and pride.It is the story of a person who leaves the battleground out of fear. The story revolves around maturation, heroism, cowardice, and the indifference of nature.

 

(D). Barrack-Room Ballads is a compilation of Rudyard Kipling's songs and poems that predominantly uses a local dialect and focuses on the late Victorian British Army. The collection contains some of Kipling's most well-known poems, including "Gunga Din," "Tommy," "Mandalay," and "Danny Deever," which helped him gain early recognition as a poet. The first poems were published in the Scots Observer during the first half of 1890, and a compilation of them, Barrack-Room Ballads and Other Verses was published in 1892. Later, Kipling brought it up again in a book of poetry named The Seven Seas. Ballads can be considered to be a subset of The Five Nations (1903), which also contained a number of extra uncollected poems and the third group of Boer War vernacular Army poetry titled "Service Songs.'' The main collection of Kipling's Ballads was published in the 1890s, in two volumes. The third group of poems, published in 1903, continued the theme of military vernacular ballads. The Ballads were first collected in one volume by Charles Carrington in 1973. Many of Kipling's short stories began with a little poem that was frequently referred to as a "Barrack-Room Ballad."

 

(E). "The Hosts of the Air" by Joseph A. Altsheler is a novel about a young man named John Scott, who becomes a soldier during World War I. The story takes place in the trenches of the Western Front, where John and his comrades face the constant danger of enemy attacks and bombardments. Despite the grim and dangerous conditions, John is determined to do his duty and fight for his country. Along the way, he meets a variety of characters, including his fellow soldiers, officers, and civilians caught up in the war. Throughout the novel, John's experiences change him, turning him from a naive and innocent young man into a battle-hardened veteran. Eventually, he becomes part of a daring mission to take down a German observation balloon, known as a "sausage," that is used to spy on Allied forces. The mission is fraught with danger, but John and his comrades are determined to succeed. The novel concludes with an exciting and action-packed climax, as John and his fellow soldiers engage in a fierce battle with the enemy to bring down the sausage and secure victory for the Allied forces.

 

(F). "Finished" is a novel written by H. Rider Haggard. The story follows the adventures of Allan Quatermain, a British explorer, and adventurer who becomes embroiled in the conflict. Quatermain is depicted as being one of the few survivors of the Battle of Isandhlwana, a major battle between the British forces and the Zulu army. Throughout the novel, Haggard paints a vivid picture of the political and social tensions that existed during the time of the Anglo-Zulu War. He also portrays the complex relationships between the British and the Zulu people, as well as the internal conflicts within the Zulu kingdom. Real-life historical figures such as Cetewayo and Anthony Durnford make appearances in the novel, adding to its authenticity and historical accuracy. "Finished" is a gripping tale of adventure, intrigue, and war, set against the backdrop of one of the most significant conflicts in British colonial history. Readers who are fans of historical fiction and those interested in the Anglo-Zulu War should read this amazing novel!

 

(G). "Tales of War" is a collection of short stories written by Lord Dunsany, which chronicles the experiences of soldiers and civilians during World War I. The book captures the horror, sacrifice, and tragedy of war through vivid and emotive storytelling. The stories are not just about battles and tactics, but also explore the impact of war on individuals and society as a whole. As a result, "Tales of War" is a powerful and thought-provoking collection of stories that offers a glimpse into the human experience of World War I. The book's richly detailed storytelling and varied perspectives make it a must-read for anyone interested in the history of the war or the impact of conflict on individuals and society.

 

(H). Percy F. Westerman wrote "The Mysterious Ship,". The plot centers on the exploits of two young friends during World War I. They observe a mysterious ship that resembles a German submarine but is far bigger than any submarine they have ever seen. They inform the authorities of their sighting, but they are not taken seriously. After their own inquiry, the two pals learn that the ship is a component of a Nazi scheme to obstruct British commerce channels. To find the mysterious ship and stop it from doing further harm, they team up with the British navy. They face many challenges and failures along the road, but they finally complete their purpose. Two young boys' fortitude in the face of peril and misfortune is highlighted in this page-turning story of adventure and velour. Also, it offers a look into the British attempts to defend their maritime routes during World War I as well as the naval combat strategies used throughout that conflict.

 

(I). Robert Shaler's book "The Boy Scouts of the Flying Squadron" is a thrilling adventure story. During World War I, a group of Boy Scouts form a flying squadron to help their country. The story follows their adventures. The young scouts use their skills and bravery to help the war effort. They go on dangerous missions and fight enemy forces in the skies above Europe. There are a lot of exciting action scenes in the book. For example, the boys get into dogfights and go on dangerous reconnaissance missions. As they work together to solve problems, they learn important lessons about being a leader, having courage, and working as a team. "The Boy Scouts of the Flying Squadron" is an exciting and interesting book that readers of all ages will enjoy. It's a great book for people who like action, history, and tales of bravery in dangerous situations.
