En el presente trabajo sometemos a consideración de los interesados en la historia del Panamá republicano, un periodo trascendental en la vida pública de la nación panameña. Nos referimos al periodo inicial de la República, comprendido entre los años 1928 y 1936, en que los fenómenos políticos avasallan la vida pública de la joven nación. Un sinnúmero de acontecimientos inhiben a los panameños, mediante las disputas por intereses económicos, conflictos partidarios, desavenencias personales, luchas por el poder y crisis estructurales que se insertan en los procesos electorales criollos, casi siempre a espaldas de la mayoría de la población, donde las élites económicas y sociales dirimen su afán de rodear a la república de una fachada democrática. Durante los primeros años de la república, a que nos referimos, los clanes familiares procedentes de la sociedad endogámica del periodo colonial y otros, resultantes de las inmigraciones canaleras, manejan la economía y establecen una maraña de privilegios que alejan a las mayorías nacionales del disfrute de los beneficios del progreso nacional. Las campañas políticas y las consecuentes lides eleccionarias se convierten en meras competencias por el escamoteo del sufragio el engaño y la falsedad. Esta practicas clientelistas y burdas se desarrollan ante la paciente e ignorante vista de una población sencilla y noble. Se establece una especie de monarquía democrática con dominio de las élites que tiene capacidad para controlar las decisiones que afectan a la mayoría y bloquean el acceso de las personas "normales" al poder. En conclusión, esta practicas se convierten en el "ser" de la lucha política en Panamá durante el periodo comprendido por nuestra investigación.
About the Author: Iván Alfredo Ricord Bernal es profesor de Historia y Geografía de la Universidad de Panamá. Posee un Postgrado en Docencia Superior y una Maestría en Historia de Panamá (Época Republicana). Nacido en San Carlos, Provincia de Panamá en 1946. Laboró como docente en diversos colegios secundarios del país. Desde 1995 presta servicios en la Universidad de Panamá. Actualmente ejerce como profesor titular de Historia de Panamá y América. Fue subdirector de Colegio Secundario (1994-1999) y Director de Centro Regional Universitario (2006-2011). Es un acucioso investigador sobre la historia republicana de Panamá y asiduo colaborador de periódicos y revistas nacionales. Ha publicado numerosos ensayos, artículos e investigaciones sobre temas de nuestra historia y asuntos relacionados con la vida nacional. Participó como colaborador en la obra "Protagonistas del Siglo XX Panameño. (Tomo 7) publicada en 2015 en la que es autor del ensayo "Asesinato de José Antonio Remón Cantera - 2 de enero de 1955".
