Acompaña a dos voluntarios, un dentista y un médico, en su experiencia de voluntariado con la Fundación Vicente Ferrer en India. Héctor López Rubio acudió como voluntario a Anantapur por primera vez en el verano de 2003, de la mano de Dentistas sin Fronteras, formando parte del segundo grupo que fue a trabajar en coordinación con la Fundación Vicente Ferrer. Aquel resultó un voluntariado deslumbrante, de descubrimiento de una realidad muy dura, pero también de compromiso con una organización que era capaz de transformar dicha realidad con energía, trabajo, ilusión y alegría. También se encontró con un país, más allá de estereotipos turísticos ó pseudoespirituales, que arrasa con tu concepción de la realidad. Y por supuesto, significó para él el encuentro con un hombre único, Vicente, que encarna la lucha por los derechos y la vida digna de los intocables, un hombre que supo liderar y motivar a la sociedad española con su vida y su palabra para transformar estas áridas tierras a las que fueron empujados los intocables en un lugar digno en el que vivir. Conoció a un Vicente vigoroso y comunicativo, tomando decisiones, ilusionado por múltiples proyectos. Le dijo: "Pasa a la acción". Y esa idea se le quedó grabada a fuego para siempre. En 2005 Héctor volvió a Anantapur por libre, organizando en contacto directo con RDT India un proyecto de atención odontológica en varios centros educativos de la Fundación, trabajando especialmente con niños discapacitados de diversa índole. Y en 2007, año en el que transcurre este libro, Héctor vuelve una vez más atraído por la obra de Vicente y los cientos de personas que forman la Fundación Vicent Ferrer, deseando aportar otro granito de arena a su maravilloso trabajo. Le acompaña en esta ocasión su gran amigo Sergio. Héctor relata cuando regresa a Anantapur: "Me siento como si hubiera vuelto a casa. Mi corazón pertenece a este lugar y vuelve a latir con fuerza al retornar al hogar". Los beneficios que se obtengan con la venta del libro serán destinados a la realización de proyectos de cooperación al desarrollo en India a través de la Fundación Vicente Ferrer y proyectos de cooperación al desarrollo en Senegal con la ONG Construye Mundo.
About the Author: Héctor López Rubio es un odontólogo madrileño, fundador de Clínica Dentalplus, en donde desarrolla su actividad profesional desde hace 15 años. Casado y con dos hijos, también es fundador de Tarjeta Colmiyo y cofundador de la ONGD Construye Mundo junto a su mujer, a la que conoció en el tiempo en el que transcurre El árbol de la esperanza. Ha trabajado como odontólogo fuera de España en Marruecos, Cuba, Senegal, pero sobre todo en la India como voluntario en la Fundación Vicente Ferrer en los años 2003, 2005 y 2007. Su pasión por la literatura comienza en la más tierna infancia. Ávido lector y escritor íntimo autodidacta, en 2013 inicia su blog literario El dandi del Congo http: //eldandidelcongo.blogspot.com.es/. En 2014 recibe el Premio Santa Apolonia de narraciones breves. En 2015 pública El árbol de la esperanza. Un voluntariado con Vicente Ferrer, enmarcado en la literatura de viajes y cooperación.
