Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2012 im Fachbereich VWL - Mikroökonomie, allgemein, Note: 1,3, Ruhr-Universität Bochum, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Zwischen 2004 und 2011 stieg die Zahl der Teilnehmer in deutschen Mobilfunknetzen von 76,1 Mio. auf 114,13 Mio. Im gleichen Zeitraum verbuchte Facebook einen 900-fachen Nutzerzuwachs. Diese Zahlen sind beeindruckend, aber einfach zu erklären. Sowohl die Mobilfunknetze als auch Facebook sind Anbieter, die Plattformen für die Kommunikation zwischen Menschen bereitstellen. Je mehr Teilnehmer auf einer Plattform interagieren, desto größer ist der Nutzen für jeden einzelnen Teilnehmer. Kommt auf der einen Seite also ein Nutzer hinzu, profitieren auf der anderen Seite alle bereits existierenden Nutzer. Diese junge Disziplin der zweiseitigen Märkte beschreibt und untersucht seit einer Dekade die Theorie von der optimalen Preissetzung der Plattformen über die ideale Regulierung bis hin zur Effizienz. Um das Konzept der zweiseitigen Märkte zu erklären, haben Evans und Schmalensee ein einfaches Beispiel gewählt, welches ich hier einleitend aufgreifen werde. Eine Diskothek bietet heterosexuellen Frauen und Männern eine Plattform an, um sich kennen zu lernen. Da Frauen einerseits von der Anwesenheit von Männern und Männer von der Anwesenheit von Frauen profitieren, muss die Diskothek also sowohl Frauen als auch Männer auf die Tanzfläche locken. Die Preissetzung der Diskothek ist eine Möglichkeit zur Kontrolle der Anzahl teilnehmender Personen. Stellt der Diskothekenbetreiber eine nicht ausreichende Anzahl von Frauen im Club fest, so werden aus der wartenden Menge die Damen herausgepickt und bevorzugt in die Diskothek gelassen. Aber auch Freigetränke oder niedrigere Preise für die potentielle weibliche Kundschaft sind beliebte Anreize. Anhand dieses Beispiels lassen sich alle relevanten Themenbereiche von zweiseitigen Märkten zusammenfassen.
