Dieses Buch widmet sich der mittelalterlichen Uberlieferung von De motu animalium mit deutlichem Akzent auf der Untersuchung der Beziehungen der lateinischen Uberlieferung zur griechischen Handschriftentradition. Die Studie entstand im Rahmen des von Oliver Primavesi geleiteten De motu-Editionsprojektes und unter Einbeziehung der darin geleisteten Vorarbeiten. Der Grund, eine Neuedition und damit auch Untersuchungen zur handschriftlichen Uberlieferung vorzunehmen, lag in der Forschungsentwicklung der letzten Jahre begrundet: Erst vor kurzem konnten sowohl zur lateinischen als auch zur griechischen Uberlieferung der Schrift entscheidende neue Erkenntnisse gewonnen werden. Pieter De Leemans hatte 2011 als Erster die beiden Texte der mittelalterlichen lateinischen Tradition, die Ubersetzung Wilhelms von Moerbeke und die Paraphrase Alberts des Grossen, einer detaillierten Studie unterzogen und eine Edition von Wilhelms Ubersetzung sowie eine Rekonstruktion der Translatio anonyma, auf der die Paraphrase Alberts fusst, vorgelegt (Aristoteles Latinus XVII 1.iii bzw. 2.ii-iii). Auf De Leemanns' Erkenntnissen zur Beziehung der lateinischen Texte und der griechischen Tradition fussend stellte Oliver Primavesi im selben Jahr den bis dahin unbekannten ss-Zweig der Uberlieferung vor, der als unabhangige Familie neben die in Martha Nussbaums Ausgabe von 1978 vorgestellten Handschriftengruppen a und b tritt. Die vorgelegte Untersuchung verortet die beiden lateinischen Textzeugen bzw. ihre rekonstruierten griechischen Vorlagen in der Uberlieferung und rekonstruiert dabei das Gefuge der unabhangigen griechischen Handschriften unter Beachtung der in den bisherigen Ausgaben nicht hinzugezogenen Manuskripte an mehreren entscheidenden Punkten neu. Die beiden nicht-erhaltenen Ubersetzungsvorlagen Wilhelms konnen an jeweils herausragender Stelle im Stemma codicum lokalisiert, die Beziehung der von Albert verwendeten Translatio anonyma zur nahverwandten Handschrift Laur. gr. 87.21, auf die De Leemans aufmerksam gemacht hatte, naher bestimmt werden. Die Arbeit ist durch ein methodisches Kapitel zur Rekonstruktion von schwer durch horizontale Uberlieferung getroffenen Handschriftenbeziehungen am Anfang und ein weitgehend kulturhistorisches Schluss-Kapitel eingerahmt, das die These aufstellt, dass der alteste Aristoteles-Kodex, Vind. phil. gr. 100 (J), der fur alle heute in ihm enthaltenen Aristotelischen Traktate Wilhelms von Moerbeke Vorlage gewesen ist, zur Zeit des Ubersetzers - neben anderen zoologischen Schriften - auch De motu animalium enthielt und mit Moerbekes' Erstvorlage zu 'identifizieren' ist.
