Denn wenn sie zwischen Abenteuern und Kämpfen, zwischen Minneerlebnissen, prächtigen Festen und hitzigen Turnieren auch von Mahlzeiten berichten, gewähren sie den Blick auf Handlungsschauplätze, die sie wortreich ausmalen. Was da in den Mündern der Speisenden verschwindet, ist nur von geringem Interesse. Von größerer Bedeutung ist dagegen, wie gegessen wird. Und noch wichtiger ist, wie der Gastgeber das Mahl ausrichtet, wie er seine Bediensteten anleitet und wie diese den Tischdienst versehen und sich um das Wohl der Gäste an den Tafeln kümmern. Ziel ist es, ein höfisches Mahl zu arrangieren. Von zuht ist daher oft die Rede, von Speisen in übermäßigen Mengen und dem vorbildlichen Verhalten derjenigen, die gerade essen. Dies ist das Ideal. Das vorliegende Werk bietet sowohl eine systematische Durchsicht als auch eine Auswertung von Speiseszenen aus mehr als 50 Verserzählungen aus der Zeit vom zwölften bis zum Beginn des 14. Jahrhunderts.
About the Author: Jens Hohner, 1973 in Krefeld geboren, lebt und arbeitet heute als Autor, Schriftsteller und Journalist in Koln. Nach einem Studium der Facher Germanistik und Geschichte an der Rheinischen-Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universitat volontierte er bei einer Tageszeitung in Norddeutschland und kehrte anschliessend ins Rheinland zuruck. Im seinem Studium legte er einen Schwerpunkt auf die Mediavistik und dort insbesondere auf die Darstellung des vermeintlichen Lebens zur Zeit der hofischen Dichter. Umgangsformen, rituelles Geschehen und nicht zuletzt die Gestaltung von Festen und Festmahlern zahlten zu den Schwerpunkten seiner Forschungsarbeit."
