Harris has been an accountant, a writer, a Federal employee, a member of the Air Force during World War II, a helper at the Clinch River Project in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, and also at the Cherry Point Marine Base in New Bern, North Carolina, as well as a holder of numerous positions in the Methodist Church.
