About the Book

Logline: When a beautiful and successful palm reader finds herself romantically pursued by an arrogant photographer, she uses her special powers to find out if the love and the man are worth it. A romantic comedy possessed of mystical magic, sultry jazz, ancient wisdom, love and a glowing Topaz...Zaharr touches the lives of all the unsuspecting souls who cross her path in the Old French Quarter, New Orleans.Synopsis: A wonderfully inspired romantic comedy, "Zaharr the Reader" takes a colorful concept and spins it into a well defined piece with a musical story line. The local action makes the script feel intimate and personal. The influx of miscellaneous characters gives value to the real depth produced by the main characters. While the writers introduce fun dialogue on the way to enlightenment, there is plenty of substance to carry the characters throughout the piece. This charming, fully developed storyline makes it possible for all who enter the theatre to leave whistling a happy tune.Opening in a psychic tent, the writers quickly establish the tone for the piece. The main protagonist offers uplifting insight into the lives of those around her. The writers give this story a magical element with a main character being a glowing Topaz. Zaharr's journey feels wide in scope. By the time we're introduced to her, her powers are developed, and her secret quest for true love is revealed. The fact that she does fall into love serves the audience well. The writers lead you in and out of Zaharr's psychic tent, where the local French Quarter setting offers up a quaint love story. The readings become an important insight into Zaharr's goodness. Her brief readings are sweet, yet they make the client feel incredibly important. Additionally, not too much time is spent with these random characters. When the main characters do actually come together the development of Zaharr and Elliott's relationship than skyrockets. Zaharr's exotic past is her real story. Elliot appears somewhat happenstance, however, the loss of his child and his money problems make him ripe for luck and love. The writers are able to bring in some sweet, feel good moments. Elliott's dialogue with the young Hannah is smart and touching. While Zaharr's mansion seems highly improbable, it works in the context of the story. Additionally, the love story between Elliott and Zaharr is steamy enough to entertain. Zaharr's tough edges are smoothed out in Elliott's studio making her a more endearing character. Elliott is also painted in a kinder light with Zaharr's quick wit. When it comes to men it makes her an enjoyable character to follow.Overall, "Zaharr the Reader " is enchanting and entertaining; a highly flamboyant love tryst that focuses intently on the small moments and introduces local poets, writers and musicians. The charming characters are on a journey. New Orleans is made to feel more intimate than it is due to the absence of cars, commercial modern storefronts and other realities of the city. The writers bring post Katrina French Quarter into modern times with an ancient twis
