About the Book

This book is overflowing with pictures and carefully worded instructions for acoustic guitar enthusiasts who want to maintain their guitars in like-new condition and sound quality. Luthier Norman Haight not only tells you what to do, but why and when. He also advises on when it is time to let your luthier take over (i.e. get professional help - for your guitar). This book is designed to be compact enough to easily fit in your guitar case because you'll want to refer to over and over again.
About the Author: Norman began his music career with violin at age ten. He moved on to oboe, which he studied for six years. His passion for the guitar started at age fourteen and he began teaching at age sixteen. As an adult, Norm specialized in classical guitar studies in Austin, Texas. He has been a featured guitar soloist at Ascension Lutheran Church in Paradise Valley, and accompanied the Fountain Hills Community Chorus on bass and classical guitar for several years. His albums include "Renegade Renaissance," which features classical music from the 14th to the 20th centuries, "A Guitar for Christmas," comprising many long-time favorites played on classical guitar and mandolin, and "At Home," a collection of personal compositions for easy listening. "Lovin' Haight Guitars" is a compilation of Norman's professional and semi-professional friends playing their favorite styles on Haight Guitars, including original pieces by Billy Cioffi, Steve Krum, and Walt Richardson II. Back in the 1980's, Norman was playing guitar a lot, had a good job and was able to afford a really good guitar. He spent 3 years searching for a guitar he felt was worth $3,000 to $5,000 in sound quality and finish. He was disappointed in what he found and was about to give up when he learned there were books available on building guitars. Who knew? So, he started to read. Norman likes to say he's learned the art of guitar making from all of the greatest luthiers (stringed instrument makers) due to his extensive study. He completed his first guitar, a classical he still plays today, in 1989. That was the beginning of his passion for building guitars. In 2008, Norman held his first guitar building camp and it was a great success. Soon it became apparent that helping folks build their very own guitars was something Norman was exceptional at, he even did a 30 minute segment on building guitars for a local TV station. Norman crafts quality acoustic steel-string and classical nylon-string guitars, complementing them with a variety of original designs and inlays. His guitars are the instrument-of-choice at several recording studios. He is guiding students one-on-one through the process of building their dream guitars in the Phoenix area of Arizona.
