About the Book

Young Mickayel Fetching a Pail of Water!, is the story of a young Armenian boy and his family that suffered from the atrocities of the Turkish government in 1915. Young Mickayel is just like any other Armenian young children that recollected the memories of the hard times they have endured as children during the genocide period. The story revolves around the circumstances of the hard journey into the Armenian genocide period (1915 to 1918) that took the lives of one and half million Armenians. Mickayel was one of the four boys of his parents. The story emphasizes on the human spirit and perseverance enduring the crucial hardship for survival. As a young child it must have been heart breaking to go through such a horrible experience that will never leave the memory of that child. Young Mickayel and his brothers each in their way were growing up by experiencing certain mysterious feelings and sense of nostalgia. They were going through feelings that they could not understand or explain. The story is a sad one and it reflects the suffering of young Mickayel as a child. The story instigates an emotional appeal grounded on compassion towards humanity and hopefully allows the space for the question to be asked why this sort of act of violence is still present after 102 years? The story tells about one boy's experiences through a journey for survival also a reminder that half of the refugees in our time at the present are children. Children are always the victim of these crimes and they are affected and suffer most from this kind of these unfortunate acts towards humanity! The story of Young Mickayel Fetching a Pail of Water!, evokes the emotions as it unfolds. Mickayel feels the obligation and the duty of an adult! In the midst of this unexpected life he and his family draws joy out of nature by gazing to the majestic night skies that brings hope and the strength to the spirit of humanity. The story is heart warming and emotional. The many somber and emotionally enticing illustrations capture the attention of the young child's eyes to only expand the imagination of that young child that she/he is the hope for the future. The story has sad beginning about the unfortunate journey in Diaspora of Mickayel and his family that instigates compassion to the sorrow and sufferings they had to endure to stay alive. However, it also unfolds an awesome end and that is, being alive to talk about it to draw a lesson from! The story gives children the opportunity to learn about their strengths. Explore their emotions.Children best learn when they are interested and involved in the process of learning. For this to happen, helping, guiding and facilitating the possibilities for the child, is essential for the unfolding of their potentials to make a difference. We as mentors, parents we must ask how we may make a difference by enlightening the future generation and alarm them of the unwanted and negative acts of evil. Life does not have the space only for the fairy tale stories but it is compacted by the harsh events that are real and that are consuming us all grounded on compassion for humanity. As humans we have an imperative duty and the need to stop all this suffering to make a difference for change. The story is whimsical! It is a tale that incorporates characters far away lands and adventures! It is informative and educational. It is a story that has an effect on the children's emotions with many elements that is acceptable. The story is artful and adaptable to allow the child to adapt and have distinctions of its genre by the sense of her/his imagination.
