About the Book

The Young Man's Guide is a book designed to help a parent teach biblical values to their teenage son. A son who is making crucial, life-changing moral decisions about their lives that will affect their futures for years and perhaps for eternity. As believers, we all want to pass the torch of faith along to our children and to guide them along the path of genuine discipleship, and The Young Man's Guide is a tool to help parents and youth group leaders accomplish that. This publication is designed to be used by parents and other adults on a weekly basis to introduce 13 to 18-year-olds to teachings from the Bible as drawn from the book of Proverbs. Its 52 entries-one for each week of the year-consist of an opening illustration, a Scripture passage, three pointed questions, a launching point for prayer, an action item and a suggested Bible passage for further reading. A blank (lined) page at the end of the book can be used to answer the questions, action and further reading sections for each entry. In a format intended to facilitate open discussion, accountability, and action, The Young Man's Guide deals with subjects relevant to teenage boys such as the value of mentoring, dealing with peer pressure, finding wisdom, sexual purity, compassion, courage, work ethic, etc. This book can also be used as a curriculum in youth group settings to provide regular, biblical life lessons every week of the year or as a handy sourcebook for occasions when a devotional is needed. It promises to better equip teens to deal with the pressures they face each day in a culture that is often hostile to wholesome values-and prepare them to maintain their faith when they leave home. The answer pages can continue to be used by young people for years after to refresh their moral vision and to remind themselves of lessons learned. In short, The Young Man's Guide will help "make disciples" of boys as they enter adulthood. Although this book was written for young men, the principles apply to teenage girls as well. The illustrations are targeted for a young man's thought process and imagination.
About the Author: Bryan Yeager is currently the COO of Samaritan Aviation, a missions' organization that uses aviation services to show God's love to those living along jungle rivers in Papua New Guinea. In 2010, Bryan transitioned from Senior Pastor of Grace Community Church in Montrose, Colorado, where he pastored for 12 years. Prior to pastoring in Montrose, Bryan was the National Director of Volunteers for Promise Keepers during its period of greatest growth. From 1993-1998, he trained, recruited and managed over 120,000 volunteers for 60-plus stadium and arena events held for men around the country-including the historic, million-man-plus "Stand in the Gap" gathering in Washington, D.C., on October 4, 1997. While at Promise Keepers, Bryan additionally served as a National Director of Events, overseeing the logistics of event production with 30 full-time staff members in multiple state offices. Bryan has been in full-time ministry since 1978, and has served as senior pastor in churches in New Mexico, Arizona and Colorado. He also pastored a Chinese/East Indian church in Singapore in 1993, and began a church in Nairobi, Kenya, that had an attendance of over 1,600 in the late 1980's and early 1990's, engaging in evangelistic outreaches where over 100,000 people made commitments to Christ. As a result of this movement, many new churches were birthed in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. Bryan has traveled to over 30 countries and has shared leadership insights at conferences in many of those countries. Bryan and his wife Mary live in Mesa, Arizona. They have three adult children and three grandchildren. Bryan can be reached at bryan.a.yeager@gmail.com
