Disruption is no longer an exception but a norm. With the onset of COVID in 2020, the level of disruption has only magnified exponentially with most organizations forced to move towards remote working. The disruption has also impacted most small to medium sized organizations and has compelled them to alter their vision & strategies. This has resulted in many losing their livelihood and earning capacity impacting their near & dears apart from themselves.
Even for those who still are in the comfort of their workplace, there is a lot of uncertainty about their careers and its security which leads to anxiety and disturbs the way they are going about their lives. The impact is to their physical, mental and emotional health which cascades to their immediate circle of influence too (Family & extended ones)Loss of earning capacity and the compelling demands of life collectively create a sense of despair for individuals. People who lost their jobs or potentially looking at job loss are largely influenced by their current standards of life. Usually, when everything is going well in life, we don't think about creating sustenance plans and when things go wrong, we won't have time to do so.
The demands of life have expanded too, adding to the ever increasing expectations that have to be met consistently. What once used to be known as luxury & comfort have no become necessities. The wants are becoming needs with a great pace. The social networks have also broadened the horizons that impact & influence our needs.
In order to Bounce Back, we need to build awareness of three types of objectives that are focused on Growth through disruption, Maintaining current ways of life and Sustenance. The three types of objectives that we can classify are:
- Audacious Objectives - These objectives are still growth oriented and focused on accomplishing next level in our careers or our quality of life.
- Pragmatic Objectives - These are focused on maintaining our current life style and moving into horizontal roles and trying to be more conservative about what we want.
- Sustenance Objectives - These are focused on worst case scenario and focus on what's mandatorily needed for us to survive while we are looking for ways to move at focusing on more pragmatic or growth objectives.
The book outlines the various personality traits that we need to equip ourselves with in order to successfully navigate through the disruption and be able to Bounce Back. These personality traits have been identified after carefully studying the lives of various people who have been faced with extreme situations in their lives and have successfully managed to come out winners giving us all required motivation, energy, positivity and belief that we too can Bounce Back if we are able to put our efforts in the right direction.
The book outlines a 10 steps framework that will provide a method to use the various personality traits outlined in Section 2 and follow the framework step by step for us to BOUNCE BACK, to not just survive but thrive & excel. The book also includes a self-help workbook which has all the questions that help us look inward, challenge our thought process, mindset, beliefs, behaviours and contextualize the framework to build a roadmap with a set of clear actions.
