"Human existence is characterized by the active involvement with the
external world through the five senses of sight, sound, taste, touch, and smell. One
experience joy or sorrow, achievements or disappointments, and learning of growing
through the mode of these senses. Among these, the sense of sight contributes a great
deal to one relate with the world"
"Author said that eyes are the windows to the soul. The eyes are the most
important organs among the five senses. Eyes are also the windows to one life. The
sense of sight contributes the most to the mind in transmitting information about the
world. In other words, 'vision is a process of mental interpretation' through the
camera of eyes. In fact, approx 1/3 of the cerebral cortex is dedicated to the visual
analysis of perception"
It's aspects of knowledge and skill were mostly transmitted from mouth to
mouth. With the invention of the printing press and the mass publication of reading
materials, the human eye had to adjust and retrain its workings to capture finer objects
(or characters) in close proximity. The reading activity also requires sustained,
the uninterrupted focus of the eyes, which causes stress and strain.
All aspects of human life - be it education, work, or entertainment - have
undergone a tremendous change in the twenty-first century with the widespread use
of electronic gadgets. The demand placed on the eyes to closely look at light -
emitting computer or mobile screens for long hours is tremendous.
