About the Book

Wuthering Heights, Emily Bronte’s solitary published novel, is a tale of passionate love and vicious revenge, both so destructive that they go on to obliterate everything and everyone in their wake including the lovers themselves. Summary Of The Book Wuthering Heights is a literary classic portraying the intense love and passion that first brightens and then blights the lives of its protagonists. The book is named after a certain manor on the English moors, featured in the book as the residence of one of the protagonists. The narrative begins with the arrival of Mr. Lockwood to Thrushcross Grange, a manor he has rented on the English moors. On a casual visit to meet his landlord Heathcliff, he is forced to stay in the landlord’s house due to excessive snowfall. His sleep is disturbed by a nightmare in  which he sees the ghost of Catherine Earnshaw, a former resident of the house. His curiosity is  piqued, and the next day he asks his housekeeper to tell him the history of his landlord’s manor, Wuthering Heights. It turns out that it was the Earnshaw family that resided in Wuthering Heights about three decades ago. One day, Mr. Earnshaw returned from one of his visits to Liverpool with a young boy in tow. He adopted the boy and named him Heathcliff. A strong bond was forged between Heathcliff and Catherine, the daughter of the family, and it eventually developed into love. However, unforeseen circumstances and the passage of time saw the two of them turning into different people and growing apart. Their passionate love was doomed by the difference in wealth and status, as Heathcliff had been reduced to being a servant. Heathcliff’s anger and bitterness at the way his life had been destroyed developed in him a strong thirst for vengeance. The plot follows his elaborate plan to seek revenge and the results of his subsequent vengeful actions. Wuthering Heights was first published in 1847, and a version edited by the author’s sister was published in 1850. It has now acquired the status of a classic in English literature. The book has been adapted for film, theatre, television, a graphic novel, and music. This particular edition of the book is accompanied by detailed notes and background information about the book and the author. About Emily Bronte Emily Bronte was an English author and poet. She used the pseudonym Ellis Bell for publication purposes. She wrote several poems, including At Castlewood, The Old Stoic, Self Interrogation, Day Dream, and The Prisoner. Her writing was lucid and striking, and distinctly marked by an innovative structure. Bronte was born on July 30, 1818, in Yorkshire, England. Her formal education was interrupted more than once, but she managed to learn a lot through self-study. She eventually started teaching at the Law Hill School in Halifax. In 1842, she traveled to Brussels, Belgium, with her sister Charlotte, to perfect German and French, as the two of them had plans of opening a school back home. Bronte fell seriously ill due to the unsanitary conditions at home. Her condition deteriorated due to her refusal to seek medical help. She eventually contracted tuberculosis, and later succumbed to it on December 19, 1848.

A Thrilling But Totally Believable Murder Mystery

Read this in one evening. I had planned to do other things with my day, but it was impossible to put down. Every time I tried, I was drawn back to it in less than 5 minutes. I sobbed my eyes out the entire last 100 pages. Highly recommend!
