About the Book

Story is the hardest thing to learn for most digital filmmakers these days, since the technology has become so inexpensive and easy to use. What if you had a universal story brainstorming roadmap to help you think up all the best possible narrative ideas for your project at each step? This Workbook contains a series of simple questions you answer about your story idea to create a great script fast. Lists of possible story ideas are given at each step to avoid any writer's block. For example, when it is time to pick a plot goal for your story, you have over 100 to choose from for fresh ideas. This Writing A Great Script Fast Workbook is designed to be used with the 20 hour, 19 part, DVD workshop "Writing A Great Script Fast." It may also be used as a stand-alone story development tool. Many sample videos from the workshop can also be found on YouTube. Sections: 1. Brainstorming For Story Ideas, 2. Creating Characters, Themes & Symbols, 3. Developing Plot Points, 4. Writing Scenes & The Script. Based on the bestselling books "Developing Digital Short Films" (2004 New Riders / Peachpit) and "Maya 2 Character Animation" (1999 New Riders) by Sherri Sheridan. Covers the top 20 books on screenwriting, film and animation in easy to follow steps with 1000's of story techniques learned along the way. Over 100 films, stories and animations were broken down to create this universal story blueprint engine. This story development workshop includes a focus on creating film ideas you can make yourself, or with a small team, using low budget digital filmmaking techniques. "This is a step-by-step guide to craft an award winning film without going bankrupt!" - Digital Dispatch News. "The ultimate story class for digital filmmakers!" - CG Magazine
About the Author: Sherri Sheridan is the leading world expert in teaching story to digital filmmakers and animators with her books, classes and videos. She is also the Creative Director at Minds Eye Media in San Francisco, where she spends her time creating all sorts of digital projects (MindsEyeMedia.com). She directs, produces, animates, writes, and designs media for a wide range of clients, including Fortune 500 companies, major record labels, TV/cable stations, feature-film studios, advertising agencies, and video game companies. Sherri is the co-author of Maya 2 Character Animation (New Riders, 1999), and the author of Developing Digital Short Films (New Riders/ Peachpit / Pearson 2004). In 1998 she won the "Best Animated Music Video Award" at the World Animation Festival in Pasadena for "Beyond" by Geffen's Young American Primitive. "Beyond" was the first all digital music video created for a major record label, and world premiered at the ResFest Cinema Electronica in 1997. MyFlik.com "You Online Movie Studio" is her latest project, featuring a free online film school and low budget movie studio. She is also in the process of creating her first 3D animated feature film the "Bigfoot Shamans." The new 20 hour DV class "Writing A Great Script Fast" by Sherri Sheridan is now being used in schools all over the world to teach story. This cutting edge visual class guides the viewer through a start to finish visual screenwriting process, for low budget digital filmmakers, based on her best selling digital story books. Sherri recently finished a worldwide teaching tour using this new class, including a story trip through China. Over the years, Sherri has helped inspire thousands of graduate computer animation students from around the world, helping them to tell their own stories using their favorite digital tools, at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. While teaching these students, she started developing the foundation for a unique step-by-step universal digital visual storytelling process. Before founding Minds Eye Media in 1995, she helped develop Shockwave Technology at Macromedia, and created the first Shockwave movies on the web.
