Das ist das zugrundeliegende Motto des Romans: Verrottung bedeutet umgangssprachlich "verkommen, den sittlichen Halt verlieren".
Moralische Verrottung ist das Thema, der Kampf um Machterhalt und die Allmacht des Geldes, dessen Bedeutung und gleichzeitig seine Kritik in dem Satz Der Hauptwert des Geldes besteht in der Tatsache, dass man in einer Welt lebt, in der es überbewertet wird, zusammengefasst wird.

Die erzählte Geschichte hat vielleicht nicht die Wahrscheinlichkeit auf ihrer Seite, aber das muss bei Geschichten ja auch nicht unbedingt der Fall sein, sie wirft jedoch am Beispiel der Behandlung einer Pandemie zwecks Machterhalt einer Clique ein Schlaglicht auf die Strukturen einer macht- und geltungsorientierten (im Sinne von "Haben und Nichthaben") Gesellschaft.
