About the Book

The World Around Me Teacher's Guide is one of the components of Languages4kidz, Inc. English 4 Pre-schoolers Program. The World Around Me is broken down into 12 lessons. Each lesson introduces children to basic vocabulary, lovely songs, finger plays, stories, poems and games to help develop their English language skills. Lessons 1-4 focus on greetings, introductions and vocabulary, expressions and structures related to children's families. During this part of the unit children have an opportunity to explore similarities and differences between families in ways that go beyond physical attributes. All activities in these four lessons help children learn about the special role each of them has in their families and how members in a family take care of one another. Vocabulary includes chores and responsibilities each member has in a family. Activities in Lessons 5-8 help young children discover the people around their towns. There are many different kinds of people that do many different kinds of jobs in a neighborhood. This part of the unit helps children identify and learn about many of these people and the important role that they play in the community. Community helpers like teachers, police officers, and firemen may be the most familiar, but children will also discuss what their moms and dads do and other neighbors do.Lessons 9-11 help young children discover other lands and appreciate people from other countries and cultures. A variety of activities provide wonderful opportunities for children to learn more about themselves and the other children in the group, the places they come from, their cultural heritage and traditions. Lesson 12 is the last lesson on the The World Around Me unit. It is a celebration for children's accomplishments. Each lesson in this Teacher's Guide includes at the beginning valuable information regarding the materials necessary to conduct the classes and vocabulary and structures that need to be introduced and/or practiced. Throughout this Teacher's Guide, you will find more information to help you focus on important teaching components. There are Information Boxes that provide statements that elaborate or give additional information about specific activities; Language Learning Boxes that focus your attention on relevant issues regarding language development and special Icons that facilitate the identification and location of activities in the lesson plans. Each lesson includes activities for the following: a) Warm-upWelcome selectionsSelf- directed activityb) Circle TimeCircle Time songGood Morning songCalendar activitiesNumbersAlphabet and SoundsABC songTheme FocusTheme songc) Creative Time d) Story time e) Wrap-upWith this Teacher's Guide you can start teaching using whole language in context right away with minimal investment of time researching and creating your own lesson plans.
