About the Book

I wonder if I am the only one who has ever placed an "Adult Advisory Content" warning on a Christian book. The words in this journal were written to replace some of the songs on Showtime's series Brotherhood and Queer As Folk. The hope was to inject Christian values and ideas into a place that was in darkness. It was a great opportunity for me to participate with John Andrew Schreiner in being a light for Christ! I don't think it was Showtime's intention to evangelize the fans of their shows but they didn't seem to object much to the material that was handed in, unless it was something blatant like: "Shame on you for your lifestyle, repent of sin-or burn in hell!" (We could not put a line like that in a song.) The new music was replacing the existing music and had to fit in perfectly with the scene. Because of John's genius musical abilities, word came through the grapevine that many thought the new soundtracks came out better than the original ones! All the music was written by John Schreiner, with some help from Jeff Lams, and all the words were written by John Schreiner, Bob Bennett, and me. John was the one who coined the phrase "Word Pictures" in describing my writing, so that is what I have decided to call the book. Re-writing music for soundtracks can be very challenging and the stretching of one's abilities since there is such a variety to replace. For instance, Lou Reed's "Heroin" in Brotherhood became "She's My Heroin". (You can listen to the finished track at www.soundcloud.com/eddyduhan). "Love Shack" by the B-52's became "Flashback" in Queer As Folk. I noticed that Showtime has put some of the shows on Netflix. So far they have placed Sleeper Cell, The L Word, and Queer As Folk on Netflix. As much as I would like to hear the music in the context of the shows, I must admit I find them very difficult for me to watch. This book was compiled from my personal journals and is a gift for family and friends. This book is not for sale. Eddy Duhan.
