"You're right, I've had a rough old life, but I'm a tough old cow!"
Doris was born into a world of poverty and extreme hardship.
While still only a child, she saw her dear mother waste away, a
victim of one of the biggest killer diseases of the time, tuberculosis.
Struggling to come to terms with her loss, and having no choice
but to take on all household chores - cleaning and scrubbing,
cooking, shopping and so on - as well as go to school, Doris
was suddenly faced with something worse. Her own father
became her worst enemy and began treating her in a way
no little girl should be treated. And so on...
Doris lived a life that would have put many folk in an early grave,
but this lady was made of stronger stuff. She went on to survive
everything life threw at her, because she was the Woman from the
Wisemore.
