Essay aus dem Jahr 2010 im Fachbereich Pädagogik - Familienerziehung, Note: 1,5, Johann Wolfgang Goethe-Universität Frankfurt am Main, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Krank sein, gesund sein - wer definiert diese Zustände? Was ist überhaupt Krankheit? Wann ist man gesund? Was gilt wann und wieso als Krankheit und wer legt dies fest? Wo endet Gesundheit und beginnt Krankheit? Fragen über Fragen, die nicht immer eindeutig beantwortet werden können. Diese vielen Fragen kann ich im Laufe meines Essays wohl nicht bearbeiten, dennoch werde ich versuchen teilweise, wenn auch nur skizzenhaft darauf einzugehen. Des Weiteren stelle ich mir die Fragen, ob es tatsächlich, wie behauptet wird, immer mehr solcher so genannter "In-Krankheiten" wie bspw. AD[H]S in unserer Gesellschaft gibt und mit welcher Argumentation solche Krankheiten zu rechtfertigen versucht werden? Als Ausgangspunkt meiner Überlegungen dient der Text von Rolf Haubl "Krankheiten, die Karriere machen: Zur Medizinalisierung und Medikalisierung sozialer Probleme". Die Weltgesundheitsorganisation, kurz WHO, definiert Gesundheit folgendermaßen: "Die Gesundheit ist ein Zustand des vollständigen körperlichen, geistigen und sozialen Wohlergehens und nicht nur das Fehlen von Krankheit und Gebrechen". Demnach ist man also nur gesund, wenn man nicht nur nicht krank ist, sondern sich zusätzlich noch körperlich, geistig und ganz und gar wohl in seiner Haut fühlt?! Wer in der heutigen Gesellschaft kann von sich behaupten diese These bejahen zu können? Wer ist wirklich voll und ganz gesund nach den Normen und Festlegungen der Weltgesundheitsorganisation? Wer sich aber in der eigenen Haut wohl fühlt und dennoch einige kleine Zipperlein hat, die allerdings noch keine explizite Krankheit darstellen, so kann dieser jemand hoffen, denn das Medizinsystem arbeitet fleißig daran, neue Krankheiten zu erfinden und natürlich auch passend dazu Medikamente zu entwickeln.
