About the Book

Short, whimsical narratives about the quests of mythical wizards. They are relayed in the form of journal entries, fourteen entries. Full color, vividly illustrated, including photographs of the wizards (sculptures created by figurative ceramist, Diana J. Smith). 36 page book. "Long ago, in a time when animals talked like people, and the world was full of wonders, there existed a group of powerful and most magical wizards. They lived in a lush green faraway land filled with towering mountains, dense forests, high jagged cliffs, surrounded by a wild, untamed sea. But a closer look caused you pause, they were curious indeed, no species of animal or man ever known. The words recorded in this exalted Tome were written by these extraordinary beings and may only be evident to those who have magic in their blood. This Tome only extends its pages to the quills of those whose hearts were born of the wizarding world. Those who may place the pen upon its pages must do so in consideration of only three things: 1. Those that turn the page of this great Tome shall be committed to the completion of a quest of grand proportion. 2. Adventurers and quest seekers alike must diligently make record of their journeys until each quest finds its completion. 3. Upon completion of that quest each shall pass this Tome to the hands of its next great scribe and shall, until that time, bear the weight of these great pages. Beyond this page lie excerpts of entries from the greatest of questers. Those who dare may turn this page at their own peril."
About the Author: Diana J Smith was born and raised in Oklahoma. Diana received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a major in painting at the University of Oklahoma. Her intense interest in masks led her into additional studies in anthropology. Diana has exhibited in numerous juried, group, and solo shows and has won many awards for her paintings, masks and mixed media figures. While Diana also enjoys pure abstraction, she is best known for her acrylic paintings of canines, enlivening her subjects with qualities of loyalty, humor, inquisitiveness, mystery and patience. Diana's newest body of work is in ceramics. "Working in clay feels therapeutic. At first, of course, I sculpted dog heads, then added other animals and surrounded them with plants and flowers on a sculpted back board. Then it evolved..... I began to sculpt the heads and let them take on their own form, almost part dog, rabbit, camel, pig, even fish and they became their own species. I loved where it went, they felt noble like they were from a romantic ancient culture, so they needed robes. I believe the Celtic influence in their attire comes from my past. I had traveled to see County Clare, Ireland where my great-great-grandfather came from. There I spent hours photographing the wonderful old Celtic grave markers." This new body of figurative sculptures is called "A Mythical Menagerie". Then, a surprise to me, they each seemed to need their story told. So I began the "Wizards' Journal - The Exalted Tome of Quests". I have no idea how long this will last...as long as these extraordinary beings choose to share their quests with me, I shall keep recording their words herein....." Diana lives & works in Oklahoma City with her husband, and always a dog or two. dianajsmith.com
