Twelve years after his wife's sudden death, Officer David Meyers is trying to move on while coping through questionable life decisions.
His new love is not the type you bring home and introduce to the kids. Yet, David relentlessly tries to bring his two worlds together to make a new, united family.
As David rises through the ranks at work he is exposed more intimately to the atrocities of people. David faces trauma he is unable to handle and things quickly fall apart making forcing him to have a mental break.
His thoughts and flashbacks will thrust him deeper into the world of PTSD while his children are about to become devastated by his actions.
With David's trauma rippling through to his children, they too will have to face some hard life decisions and trauma in their own young lives.
"One of the best portrayals of mental illness (and dysfunctional families) that I have ever seen." - Karin Cather
Background:
Approximately five percent of people experience or suffer from PTSD.
Throughout history PTSD has gone by many names such as shell shock and catastrophic stress disorder.
PTSD is most commonly associated with the military but as catastrophic stress disorder suggests ANYONE who has experienced or witnessed a traumatic or catastrophic event is susceptible to PTSD.
After joining several PTSD support groups and having talked with hundreds of people whom have been diagnosed/suffer from PTSD it has been grossly brought to my attention that one of the most frustrating things about this disorder is the common conclusion that "People Just Don't Understand."
Withdrawn is a Mental Health Awareness novel with the focus of PTSD.
