About the Book

Anglicanism, in its various international contexts, has a joyful and promising present and future rooted in its historical blend of scripture, reason and tradition, writes retired Bishop Artemio Zabala of the Diocese of North Central Philippines, also experienced in the Diocese of Los Angeles. With humor and welcoming cultural nuances of Filipino church life, Bishop Zabala makes a compelling case for the balanced value of Anglican Christianity going forward from the Windsor Report, a significant document that sought a way forward following the different opinions expressed by the various national churches, or Provinces, of the Anglican Communion following the ordination of an openly gay bishop in the Episcopal Diocese of New Hampshire. An insightful foreword is written by Frederick H. Borsch, retired Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles and former dean of the chapel at Princeton University.
About the Author: The Rt. Rev. Dr. Artemio M. Zabala served the Church as the first Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of North Central Philippines with its Mission Center in Baguio City, the Summer Capital of the Philippines. Educated at the University of the Philippines (B.A., Philosophy) and St. Andrew's Theological Seminary in Quezon City (B.Th., M.Div.) he pursued postgraduate work in systematics (M.Th.) at the Toronto School of Theology, under the direction of Canadian ecumenist Dr. Eugene R. Fairweather and in New Testament studies (Dr. Theol.) at the University of Heidelberg under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Erich Dinkler, noted German biblical scholar and archaeologist. Prior to consecration as Bishop of EDNCP, "Tim" Zabala served rural pastorates in Mindanao and Luzon and then, for many years, on the faculty and administration of St. Andrew's Seminary and the South East Asia Graduate School of Theology as well as a number of ECP national commissions. Actively involved in ecumenical organizations and NCCP-related affairs since SCM-WSCF student days, he was a founding member of the Christian Literature of the Philippines with New Day Publishers, its publishing arm, once served the Philippine Theological Society as President, and represented the autonomous ECP at its admission to membership in the World Council of Churches at the 1991 General Assembly in Canberra. Prior to retirement, he served in the Episcopal Asiamerica Ministry in Southern California as an Assisting Bishop in the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles, and as the first Rector of the Parish of Holy Trinity and St. Benedict, Alhambra, which he helped to establish. He is married to Dr. Mary Capuyan Zabala, with whom he has served the Church since ordination in 1963. Both are blessed with three children and a granddaughter.
