About the Book

Beautiful snow covered Berry Township during the night. An excited boy waits by the TV to see the school closings. When he hears his school, he is off for a day of sledding. As the night begins to fall, he trudges home dragging his sled behind. Suddenly, the sled it stuck. It has hit a dead body. After the scared little boy runs for his mother, the police arrive to find out the victim is none other than their mayor, Albert Lee.Many of the town's citizen are attending a gala at the Community Center given by Patrick Berry to introduce his new development called Olde Berry Towne. He shows them models and renderings.Chief of Police George Clews asks his friend and former teacher Kado Dolan, who is at the Community Center with Irene Lee, to tell Albert's widow the sad news. The women barely escape an attempt to harm them in the basement of the Center. Kado drives her home. Getting out of the car, Irene slips on ice and also dies. Kado is puzzled because there had been no ice on the driveway when she had picked her friend up. Kado soon finds herself stalked; neither she nor Chief Clews knows why. The stalker attempts to murder her. As the local and state police, with Kado's help, uncover seemingly unrelated clues, the motives still elude them. Finally, a clue leads them to a small town in Pennsylvania where the mystery finally begins to unravel.
About the Author: After a 27 year career as a high school English & Speech teacher in Cherry Hill NJ, I retired...sort of. I continue to tutor both bedside and private students and have also substitute taught and acted in TV commercials. For fun, I play bridge, write, and enjoy my 6 grandchildren. I was born in Western Springs IL, and there are few, if any, who can make that claim. You see Western Springs does not have a hospital; I was born at home on Prospect Avenue, next door to the house where my father was born. My mother had had her first 2 babies in the hospital and was so happy with home delivery that she wrote an article published in magazine. The American Family. My first national radio and television appearances were at the age of 9 on a long-ago, well-known show called The Quiz Kids. My sister Virginia Rhoads Kingland and my brother Gurrie Clark Rhoads were also on the show. Besides Virginia and Gurrie, I have 3 other siblings: Paul Kelly, a prominent Chicago lawyer; Cheryl Felicia, actress, comedian, director, producer, and owner of a renowned acting school in Falls Church VA; and Mark Quentin, author of the recently published Land of Lincoln, a clever compilation of tales from Illinois history. I have been blessed with 3 children and 6 grandchildren: George Clews Carpenter (USAF Colonel, ret.., husband of JoAnne, father of Trey, Sean, and Ashley); Gregg Rhoads Carpenter (musician--sings, plays lead guitar, solo or often with a band called Fuzzy Paradise, father of Dylan & Zach)); and Mary Ginanne Carpenter D'Anastasio (works with autistic children), wife of Robert, mother of Gia.).
