About the Book

Lindy's cocaine smuggling venture is as creative as it's illegal. While boatloads of contraband have entered the country by way of the Louisiana bayous for centuries, getting the shrimp fishing fleet of St. Mary's Parish to unwittingly help him was a true stroke of genius. It's 1992 and many Vietnamese refugees had recently settled in the area, most working as shrimpers. This doesn't sit well with the Cajun fishermen who have trawled the same Gulf of Mexico waters for decades. Lindy's thugs are stirring resentment by cutting nets, sabotaging engines and taking pot shots at the fishing boats on both sides. Reports of the mischief keep raining upon Parish Sheriff Gaston Picard, who's hard-pressed, but determined to keep the peace. With all the attention of the authorities focused on the shrimpers' feud, Lindy's half-ton of coke is a sure thing to sneak through. But could two seven-year old girls and an ageless Chitimacha brave keep Lindy from plunging the community into a bloody ethnic conflict?
About the Author: Born in Cuba in 1947, Blas arrived in the U.S. at age 14 as an unaccompanied Cuban refugee. Two years later, he enrolled in New York City's Columbia College and graduated in 1968 - in the midst of that school's iconic student revolt - with a B.A. in Anthropology. Four years later, he received his J.D. from Columbia School of Law and moved to Washington, D.C., where he worked as an attorney with the Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Department of Justice. He moved to Miami, Florida in 1976, and continued to practice law. In 1995, he shifted from writing legal pleadings and briefs, to writing fiction, essays, creative non-fiction and poetry. In 2006, the screenplay version of Wild Ride on a Seesaw received recognition in that year's Writer's Digest magazine annual competition. Now Blas rewrote the story in novel form, and is currently finishing a sequel: Dodging the Buzzsaw. Aside from Flight to Nowhere, his debut novel, and the Wild Ride series, he has completed one other novel and is working on a memoir from the time he spent in a remote Cuban mountain settlement teaching adults how to read. He's also written articles on Cuban society in the 1950s and on local Central Florida politics for on-line news and information site Examiner.com. Currently, he lives in Orlando, Florida with his cat Marmalade.
