Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2016 im Fachbereich Verkehrswissenschaft, Note: 1,0, Macromedia Fachhochschule der Medien Hamburg, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Airbus und Boeing, die beiden größten Flugzeughersteller der Welt, setzen im Hinblick auf die Zukunft auf zwei grundlegend unterschiedliche Modelle, auf denen ihre komplette Strategie basiert. Airbus setzt auf das Hub-and Spokes Modell, erwartet also, dass sich Routen mit geringer Nachfrage an einem sog. Hub bündeln, und die angesammelte Passagiermenge von dort aus mit einem großen Flugzeug wie dem A380 zum Ziel Hub geflogen wird. Boeing auf der anderen Seite setzt auf das Point-to Point Modell, glaubt also daran, dass das direkte Verbinden von Routen mit geringerer Nachfrage durch kleineres Fluggerät für die Passagiere und die Fluggesellschaften effizienter sei. In der Vergangenheit wurde auf das Hub-and Spokes Modell gesetzt, da kleine Flugzeuge durch ihre geringe Reichweite und Störanfälligkeit an den Triebwerken nicht in der Lage waren, lange Routen mit geringer Nachfrage zu bedienen. Große Flugzeuge mit der entsprechenden Reichweite mussten zuerst gefüllt werden, weshalb diese nur auf Hub-zu Hub Routen eingesetzt wurden. Der A380 mit einer Kapazität von etwa 550 Passagieren setzt genau auf diese Prämisse. Die neueste Generation von Flugzeugen, die Boeing 787, kann mit nur etwa 250 Passagieren längere Routen als der A380 befliegen, weshalb dieser Flugzeugtyp verstärkt auf neuen Routen mit geringer Nachfrage eingesetzt wird und über 1200 Bestellungen vorweisen kann, während die Produktionsrate des A380 durch fehlende Bestellungen stark gedrosselt werden musste. Der A380 wurde zu spät eingeführt, und zwar in einer Zeit, als sich der Markt bereits am Verschieben war, sodass eine Einstellung des Programms in naher Zukunft denkbar ist. Airbus erkannte diesen Fehler und versucht nun, mit einem Konkurrenzflugzeug zur 787, dem A350, in den stark expandierenden Markt der kleinen, zweistrahligen Flugzeuge einzusteigen.
