Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2005 im Fachbereich Soziologie - Konsum und Werbung, Note: 1,3, Universität Potsdam, Veranstaltung: Konsum und soziologische Theorie, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Konsum ist assoziativ mit der bunten Warenwelt, bestehend aus dem Waren und deren Bewerbung, verknüpft. Bei dem Versuch Konsum als Gegenstand sozialwissenschaftlicher Analyse zu fassen gibt es zwei widerstreitende Thesen. Einerseits wird Konsum als Mittel zur Bedürfnisbefriedigung modelliert, wobei das gegebene Budget nutzenmaximierend eingesetzt wird. Andererseits gilt Konsum als Äußerung des Menschen als soziales Wesen, mit der er seine gesellschaftliche Position reflektiert und reproduziert. Welche Fragen bei der Überprüfung der Thesen geklärt werden müssen machen Luhmanns Kategorien für die Unterscheidung funktional differenzierter Systeme deutlich. In der vorliegenden Arbeit wird die Verortung des Sinns von Konsum auf der Skala zwischen individueller und sozialer Referenz untersucht, dessen Programm zwischen rationaler Steuerung und sozialer Determiniertheit gesucht und als Code zwischen Geld oder Nutzen unterschieden. Dies gibt vielleicht ein Bild von der Mehrdimensionalität der scheinbaren Dichotomie der eingangs aufgeführten Thesen. Annhand der Konsumkonzeptionen von Gary Becker, James S. Coleman und Pierre Bourdieu soll der Verortung von Konsum entlang dieser Dimensionen nachgegangen werden.
