Die Analyse erfolgt unter dem Gesichtspunkt der Auswahlproblematik in Bezug auf die Inhalte. Was sollen Schülerinnen und Schülern (SuS) im Geschichtsunterricht (GU) lernen? Diese Frage nach der Auswahl von Inhalten ist eine Kerndisziplin der Geschichtsdidaktik (GD) und beschäftigt diese seit Langem. Es gibt viele geschichtliche Sachverhalte, die im GU bedeutend sein können. Die Narration der Vergangenheit ist deshalb ein unendliches Unterfangen. Infolgedessen ist die Frage, was SuS aus dieser Fülle an Sachverhalten lernen sollen, sehr anspruchsvoll zu beantworten, sodass sich ein Problem bei der Auswahl von Inhalten herauskristallisiert. Aufgrund der hohen Anforderungen an den praxisorientierten Unterricht, die sich bezüglich des Zeitrahmens und der kompetenzorientierten Richtung des GUs ergeben, bedarf es einer Reduktion von Inhalten. Dieses Auswählen von Inhalten übernehmen verschiedene Instanzen: Einerseits gibt es von staatlicher Seite curriculare Vorgaben, die neben den zu vermittelnden Kompetenzen auch die inhaltlichen Vorgaben im GU festlegen. Auf der praxisorientierteren Ebene erfolgt eine Selektion von Inhalten durch den Lehrer einerseits und das Medium Schulbuch andererseits. Diese Arbeit fokussiert die Auswahl der Inhalte im Schulbuch. Anhand zweier Schulbücher des zehnten Jahrgangs soll untersucht werden, inwiefern sich die Auswahlproblematik in diesem Medium manifestiert. Um eine tiefgehende Analyse zu gewährleisten, grenzt diese Seminararbeit den inhaltlichen Rahmen auf das curriculare Rahmenthema des Nationalsozialismus ein.
