Zweck und Übersicht. Die nachstehende Arbeit ist ein experimenteller Beitrag zur Frage des Bewegungswiderstandes von festen Körpern in Flüssigkeiten. Sie ist der erste fertige Teil eines umfangreichen syste- matischen Versuchsprogramms zur Ermittlung des Widerstandes von brückenpfeilerähnlichen Einbauten in offene Gerinne, wie sie mit ähnlicher Querschnittsform, aber mit anderem "Ver- bauungsverhältnis", d. h. Verhältnis von eingeschränktem Querschnitt an der Einbaustelle zu ungestörtem Querschnitt auch für Stabrechen u. a. Verwendung zu finden pflegen. Der vorliegende Teil der Untersuchungen gliedert sich in drei Teile und behandelt folgende Fragen: In Teil I wird die Druckverteilung und die Größe des Widerstandes bei kreiszylindrischen Körpern untersucht, und zwar A. die Druckverteilung, B. der Widerstand bei vollkommener Tauchung, d. h. ohne Beeinflussung einer freien Ober- fläche und unter Ausschaltung der Zylinderendflächen (zur Erzielung zweidimensionaler Strö- mung). Die unter A und B erzielten Ergebnisse stimmen mit den im Göttinger Luftkanal für aerodynamische Zwecke ausgeführten Messungen sehr gut überein und bestätigen dadurch die Richtigkeit der Messungen. Sie gehen aber hinsichtlich der Ermittlung der Druckverteilung bei i hohen Kennzahlen über das bisher Bekannte hinaus und vertiefen so die geringe Kenntnis von den Strömungsverhältnissen "oberhalb" des plötzlichen Abfalls des Widerstandsbeiwertes, der an sich bekannt ist. Der Vergleich mit den Ergebnissen anderer Forscher ist in Abschnitt C durchgeführt worden. D betrifft die Beeinflussung der - wie bei einem Brückenpfeiler - vom vertikal stehenden Körper durchsetzten freien Flüssigkeitsoberfläche bei Vorhandensein einer - die Gerinnesohle vertretenden - unteren Abschlußplatte.
