Mit der Lesung des Autors "Von Mauern geprägt" in der Polizeihistorischen Sammlung in Berlin anlässlich des 50. Jahrestags des Mauerbaus wurde die Plakatausstellung "Die heile Welt der Diktatur? Herrschaft und Alltag in der DDR" eröffnet. Dabei auch der während des Mauerfalls amtierende Polizeipräsident von Berlin. Von ihm kam auch die Anregung, das vom Autor vorgetragene Zeitzeugendokument mit "Wider das Vergessen" noch näher zu beleuchten. Wie der Autor, so erlebte auch er, in einer der kritischsten Phasen in der DDR vor dem Mauerfall, das Versagen z.B. der "Häupter" der katholischen Kirche, die sich aber nach der Wende nicht mehr daran erinnern wollten. Eine heile Welt glaubten auch die SED-Potentaten schaffen zu können. Die Menschen im Lande DDR mussten nur an das glauben, was sie verlangten. Ein Andersdenken konnte und durfte es da nicht geben. Die Versöhnungskirche in Berlin wurde abgerissen, damit Mauer und Stacheldraht Platz hatten. Jegliches Ausbrechen von Menschen musste ja verhindert werden. - In einer heilen Welt leben, das wollte man auch in der Ursprungs-Heimat des Autors, in Oberschlesien. Wie seine Eltern, wollten die meisten Menschen dort nicht wissen, was um sie herum geschah. Man wusste nichts von einem KZ Auschwitz. Man wollte darüber auch gar nichts wissen. Damit war aber der Boden gegeben für den Holocaust und der Tötung von Millionen Andersdenkenden, insbesondere von Juden. - Vor der Ausreise aus der DDR folgte der Autor einer Einladung dort lebender Sportfreunde. Und zusammen mit der 12-jährigen Tochter besuchte er dann auch dieses KZ-Lager, sich der Problematik bewusst, sie möglicherweise damit zu konfrontieren. Juden, auserwähltes Volk, gelobtes Land, Auszug der Israeli aus Ägypten waren Themen, für die sich der Autor schon in der Jugendzeit interessierte, bedingt zum Teil auch durch seine christliche Erziehung. Das waren auch die Themen der Antrittsvorlesung Schillers an der Jenaer Universität, die auch Studienstätte des Autors war.
About the Author: Mehr als 20 Jahre seit dem Mauerfall sind mittlerweile vergangen. Seitdem sind neue globale Veränderungen und Herausforderungen auf der Tagesordnung. Und mehr denn je gilt in Anlehnung zu Wilhelm von Humboldt in etwas abgewandelter Form der Satz: "Nur wer seine Vergangenheit kennt, kann seine Zukunft meistern". Deshalb darf es ein Vergessen auch nicht geben. Mir war es erst nach meiner Ausreise in den westlichen Teil Deutschlands vergönnt, Günter Grass´ Roman "die Blechtrommel" zu lesen. Das war für mich so etwas wie ein Synonym für meinen eigenen Rückblick und schließlich Anlass diesen in "Von Mauern geprägt" und in "Wider das Vergessen" zu reflektieren. Ich glaube, dass der Zweck der Veröffentlichung des epischen Gedichts von Günter Grass, auch darin bestand, Anstoß zu mehr Miteinander zu geben und anderseits Mahnung zu sein, mögliche Gefahren abzuwenden, wie sie etwa durch den speziellen Israel-Iran-Konflikt bestehen.
