The intent of WHY WE PRAY is to help us remember the prayers we pray and when and how the answers that we are given arrive. Remembering keeps us thanking and praising God as we get to know Him better so that we can live a life abiding in Him and full of gratitude and praise.
Prayer warrior Andrew Murray said:
*** "What is the reason that many thousands of Christian workers in the world have not a greater influence? Nothing, save this--the prayerlessness of their service. In the midst of all their zeal in the study and conversation with the people, they lack that ceaseless prayer which has attached to it the sure promise of the Spirit and the power from on high." Daily Thoughts on Holiness," January 8 (an excerpt from The Prayer Life) (Christian Literature Crusade, Fort Washington, PA, 2011).
*** "'Lord, teach us to pray.' Yes, to pray. This is what we need to be taught. Though in its beginnings prayer is so simple that the feeblest child can pray, yet it is at the same time the highest and holiest work to which man can rise. It is fellowship with the unseen and most Holy One. The powers of the eternal world have been placed at its disposal. It is the very essence of true religion, the channel of all blessings, the secret of power and life." Daily Thoughts on Holiness," February 11 (an excerpt from With Christ in the School of Prayer) (Christian Literature Crusade, Fort Washington, PA, 2011).
*** "Remember to ask for people to speak of definite objects for which to pray, things for which one can definitely and trustfully expect an answer and concerning which one can know when an answer comes. Such announcements would greatly further unanimity and believing expectation." Andrew Murray, The Believer's New Life, Chapter 35, "The Prayer Meeting," (Bethany House Publishers, Minneapolis, MN 55438, 1965, 1984).
