About the Book
Why To Play Golf Many books purport to teach HOW to play golf. For anyone thinking or not thinking of taking up the game, this book explains WHY. Why golf can positively and quickly change your life, and your health, your social enjoyment, your challenges, your relationships, your general love of life, your future goals. Why golf is for literally anyone, all as equals, of any age, or sex, or weight, or athletic ability, minimum wage to billionaire, baby boomer to centennial, single or family or generations. Why golf is the greatest game in the world, and how it can positively impact on your life in so many ways, and how to do it all on a budget, and what equipment to buy, and life at the golf club, and what the rules are all about, and what all the terminology means, and pretty much everything you will ever need to know about this immensely fulfilling and always enjoyable lifestyle choice. And a bit about how to play the game. I'll teach you in some detail how to play as badly as me, and share the frustrations and people and challenges and occasional joys faced every time I thoroughly enjoy failing yet again on a golf course I know like the back of my hand. And finally, if you can be bothered with more poor prose, a bit about how Sally and I became such a happy pair of ageing golfevangelists. Even if you are already a golfist, you will find it a good read, interesting and informative, and you may learn something. But if you are not a golfist, and you are wondering what all the fuss is about, have a read. It could change your life. And it's a lot cheaper, and more valuable, than your first golf lesson. In fact, it's all you need. And if it doesn't live up to its claims? Send an email, and I'll personally refund your investment.
About the Author: I was born in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England, in 1952, to a chief engineer father and stay at home mother. I emigrated to Australia in 1974, and spent a varied career in property, commodity trading, media, national and state politics and international business before semi retiring with my beautiful wife Sally to a small Australian country town at the age of 51. There, although almost totally new to golf, Sally and I joined the local golf club, and have each played about 1,500 competition rounds since. I wrote the book because I am a lazy, selfish, hedonist bastard, and hoped I would appeal to other fed up, increasingly grumpy middle aged men who can't be bothered getting off their arses to change their bored lives. Then I realised that the market for positive life changes was a little bigger-it was everyone, from 10 to 90, either sex, any shape. We got no exercise before golf. Now we walk 30-40km a week, plenty of bending and stretching, too. We had no social life, now we meet new people every week, nice people, all kinds of backgrounds. Within weeks we had more friends than we knew what to do with. Sally and I were already very happy, but we became even closer, having this mutual interest, playing together at least twice a week, great competition between us until she became, simply, better than me. And just being on the golf course was a delight -we were never in the open air before golf, now we watch the joeys and ducklings grow up, watch the seasons change, and it is a joy. All of these benefits kept mounting up. Golf had made an incalculable difference to our lives, in so many ways. Not just the game itself, although demonstrably the best game ever invented. But also all of the peripherals, everything that comes with being a golfist. And I thought, everybody should play this game, even if they can only manage a couple of hours a week to start. This game will benefit anybody, at any stage in their lives. I must let the world know all of the unthought-of benefits which come with golf, and tell people who had never thought of playing that yes, you can do this, you can find out what the magic is, what hundreds of millions already know. Other than giving up smoking, the decision to take up golf provides more whole of life benefits across a wider spectrum for a longer period than any other decision you can make. By a very long way. So, I'm a golfevangelist. I want everyone to take up golf and reap the benefits. I know you'll never regret it.
