2021 jährt sich der Geburtstag des Geheimrats Prof. Dr. phil. Friedrich Falke, des Begründers der modernen Weidewirtschaft, zum 150. Mal. Obgleich der bei Stendal gebürtige Falke als anerkannter und weitblickender Wissenschaftler noch heute in internationalen Fachkreisen einen klangvollen Namen hat, ist er in seiner Heimat nahezu unbekannt geblieben. Grund genug, anlässlich des Jubiläums sein Wirken, sein Umfeld und sein Leben in aller Vielfältigkeit und allen Wandlungen vorzustellen. So gibt es nicht den einen Focus auf die Person Falke, sondern aus verschiedenen Richtungen kommende Schlaglichter beleuchten mehrere Facetten des in der Familie "Weiden-Falke" genannten Jubilars. Friedrich Falke entstammt einem Bauerngeschlecht, das seit Jahrhunderten in der Wische, einem Landstrich im Nordosten der Altmark, lebte und wirtschaftete. Diese Familientradition prägte ihn und bestimmte sein Leben wie auch seine wissenschaftliche Karriere, die ihn u. a. als Lehrstuhlinhaber und Dekan an die Leipziger Universität führte, deren Rektorat er um 1929/30 innehatte. Auf ihn gehen landwirtschaftliche Grundlagenforschungen zurück. 1933 von der türkischen Regierung zum Gründungsrektor der Hochschule für Landwirtschaft und Veterinärmedizin in Ankara berufen, führte seine kritische Haltung zur NSDAP vorzeitig zur Rück-beorderung nach Deutschland, worauf er nahe Arendsee einen Hof erwarb, dessen Bewirtschaftung jedoch auf dramatische Weise an den politischen Ereignissen scheiterte. "Aus der Vielzahl der Leistungen folgt, dass Friedrich Falke einer der bedeutendsten deutschen Agrarwissenschaftler in der ersten Hälfte des 20. Jahrhunderts war und auch international ein hohes Ansehen genoss. Zugleich widerspiegelt sein Leben in prägnanter Weise die deutsche Geschichte der ersten Hälfte des 20. Jahrhunderts." (E. Schulze)
