Die scharfsinnigen Beobachterinnen Gabriele Tergit und Irmgard Keun verstanden es auf meisterhafte Weise, die in der Weimarer Republik propagierten Weiblichkeitsentwürfe aus Romanen, Filmen, Werbung und Illustrierten mit denen der (ihrer Wahrnehmung nach) reellen Verhältnisse in ihren Werken literarisch zum Bild einer Neuen Frau zusammenzusetzen. Ihre Protagonistinnen sind geprägt durch einen Zusammenprall von gefestigten, bisher bewährten Lebenskonzepten mit den Anforderungen der modernen Gesellschaft oder dem Widerstand ihrer konservativen männlichen Zeitgenossen. Diese Konflikte lösen in den Figuren eine innere Zerrissenheit aus, die starken Einfluss hat auf das Verhältnis von privatem und gesellschaftlichem Leben, von sachlichem und unsachlichem Denken, von Arbeitsmoral und Leidenschaft - oder, kompakt erfasst, von Arbeit und Liebe. Im vorliegenden Buch wird untersucht, inwiefern und warum (echte) Liebe und die Erfüllung der Ansprüche, die die Arbeitswelt in der späten Weimarer Zeit an ihre Mitarbeiterinnen stellt, in den behandelten Romanen kollidieren und welche alternativen Liebes- und Lebenskonzepte die Werke Keuns und Tergits der Leserin (ironisch) nahelegen.
About the Author: Wiebke Hugen, B.A., wurde 1986 im ostfriesischen Emden geboren. Ihr Bachelorstudium der Deutschen Philologie sowie der Publizistik- und Kommunikationswissenschaft an der Freien Universität Berlin schloss die Autorin im Jahre 2011 erfolgreich ab. Fasziniert von den kulturellen und gesellschaftspolitischen Entwicklungen in der Weimarer Republik, widmete sie sich während des Studiums in verschiedenen Arbeiten der Literatur dieser Zeit. Hierbei beschäftigte sie sich vor allem mit dem Bild der Frau in den Werken Erich Kästners ("Fabian") und Irmgard Keuns ("Das kunstseidene Mädchen"; "Gilgi - eine von uns"), die der Neuen Sachlichkeit zugeordnet werden. Das Thema der Abschlussarbeit ergab sich aus dem Interesse, eine gänzlich weibliche Sicht auf die Verhältnisse der späten 1920er- und frühen 30er-Jahre, wie sie Gabriele Tergit und Irmgard Keun in ihren Romanen verarbeiten, zu analysieren und präsentieren.
