Georg Buchner zum 200. Geburtstag - durch die Augen des Theaters Vor zweihundert Jahren wurde Georg Buchner geboren - er war noch keine 24 Jahre alt, als er am 19. Februar 1837 in Zurich an Typhus starb. Neben seiner Erzahlung Lenz hinterliess er eine Dissertation uber das Nervensystem der Barben und einige andere wissenschaftliche Abhandlungen, zwei Ubersetzungen von Texten Victor Hugos, die revolutionare Flugschrift Der Hessische Landbote, ein schmales Konvolut mit Briefen und drei Theaterstucke: Dantons Tod, Leonce und Lena und Woyzeck. Literarisch aufmerksame Zeitgenossen mogen die darin liegende Genialitat durchaus schon damals erspurt haben. Doch hob sich der Vorhang fur Buchners Buhnenwerke erst ein gutes Jahrhundert spater. Als das moderne Theater um 1900 seine Stucke entdeckte, galten sie als Offenbarung. All das, was die Moderne an Themen, Ausdruck und Stil fur sich reklamierte, fand sie hier in uberraschender Frische und Klarheit vor. Seither hat Buchner den Rang eines Klassikers; seine Werke sind zu guten Bekannten geworden. Aber wie gut kennen wir sie wirklich? Betrachten wir ihre rege Rezeptionsgeschichte auf den deutschsprachigen Buhnen des 20. Jahrhunderts, so fallt auf, dass sehr Unterschiedliches aus den Stucken herausgelesen wurde. Das Theater - gleich einem Selbstbedienungsladen - prasentierte die Werke, so wie sie gefielen, zeitgemass dekoriert, textlich variiert, nach je unterschiedlicher Intention. Nora Eckert bietet ein aufschlussreiches Panorama der sprunghaften und vielgesichtigen Aneignung von Buchners Dramen durch das Theater des vergangenen Jahrhunderts. Ausgehend von konkreter Inszenierungspraxis, etwa der Danton-Inszenierung von Gustaf Grundgens aus dem Jahre 1939 oder den markanten Umsetzungen Robert Wilsons, ergeben sich Einblicke in die Kultur-, Politik- und Mentalitatsgeschichte der jeweiligen Zeit. About the Author: Nora Eckert wurde 1954 in Nurnberg geboren und lebt seit 1974 in Berlin. Sie war journalistisch tatig fur Zeitungen (tageszeitung, Tagesspiegel) und Zeitschriften (Theater der Zeit, Opernwelt) und ist Autorin mehrerer Buchpublikationen.
