Begriffsvarianten und verwandte Beziehungen - informeller Unterricht und schülerzentrierter Unterricht, u.a. - haben sich auch nicht gerade zum Vorteil einer eindeutigeren Verständigung ausgewirkt. Unterricht zu öffnen, sich auf den Weg der Öffnung zu machen, ist jedoch eine pädagogisch unabweisbare Forderung, die sich an große pädagogische Traditionen anschließen kann. Offenheit impliziert Vielfalt und Aushalten von Spannung. Offenheit impliziert auch Aufforderung zur Diskussion und zu einer persönlichen Standortbestimmung. Diese mehrperspektivische Einleitung, ob offener Unterricht nun Modetrend oder mehr ist, spiegelt bereits ein Spezifikum der zu entwickelnden Sache: Sie entzieht sich einer monologischen Abhandlung. Sie ist vielmehr angewiesen auf gemeinsames Nachdenken, auf gemeinsame Verantwortung für eine lebendige und lernfähig bleibende Schule. Damit offener Unterricht kein Modewort ist, erscheinen analoge Formen der Lehrerausbildung und -weiterbildung (an Ausbildungsstätten, die eigenverantwortetes, persönlich signifikantes Lernen möglich machen) wichtige Ansatzpunkte zu sein. Erziehungswissenschaftler müssen mit Lehrern ein Stück gemeinsame Verantwortung übernehmen, d.h. auch, dass sie nicht kurzlebigen Modetrends nachgeben, sondern an wesentlichen Prinzipien und Konstrukten unter veränderten Bedingungen festhalten und sie weiterentwickeln müssen. Ob offener Unterricht zur Veränderung der Lern- bzw. Unterrichtskultur beitragen kann, hängt davon ab, wie effektiv und was die Schüler lernen, wie ist der Lernprozess organisiert, damit Schüler ihre Erfahrungen, ihre Problem
