On her return to South Africa, she embraces the "free love" Ecstasy trance club scene but when she meets Darren, a heroin addict, she turns to needles. Her search for love and acceptance descends into a self-destructive spiral as an intravenous smack addict. About the Author: Born in 1976 in Cape Town, South Africa, Desiree-Anne Martin is an author, poet and general word junkie. She is an addictions counsellor, a wife, full-time mother, part-time warrior-woman and currently studying a post-grad diploma in Addiction Care at UCT. She is also a recovering addict--13 years clean and sober--who suffers from an unpredictable mood disorder. She believes caffeine, chocolate, bacon and cigarettes are the four major food groups.
