The Enoughness financial-economic system is neither capitalism nor socialism. It certainly does not call for bureaucratic, centralized planning that is susceptible to incompetence and corruption. It is a fully rational, merit-based, unlimited-opportunity, free-market system with enhanced entrepreneurship and open competition, but pointedly without the growing evils of Big Capital, which has become overly concentrated, financialized and globalized.
This system is founded on two key insights: firstly that the true wealth of a nation is its capacity to create a sufficiency of utility - consumable products, services and facilities - to satisfy all of the citizens' needs and most of their aspirations. Secondly, with the available and ever-growing accumulation of science and technology, scarcity is long-since unnecessary - it is now selfishly perpetuated by the ultra-rich and all-powerful few.
By unleashing the full productive capacity of the citizenry and rapidly growing utility production, worthy welfare policies will become an affordable reality, without having to burden the hard-working and productive citizens. In addition to material wellbeing, good citizens rightfully claim their individual freedom to be, think, do and say as they choose, limited only by the injunction to not harm another.
The proposed Enoughness financial-economic system can best function in such a truly free society, provided that the citizens also trust their government to govern in their best interest. So, for the USA, which has to be the starting point of the Enoughness system, a new political-governance system is also proposed. Enabled by technology, it will truly be government of, by and for the people: a 'federation of sovereign individuals' - the very opposite of the centralized control desired by globalists. This will secure individual freedoms and maximize economically productive self-governance. Consensus choices at the level of local authorities, on shared issues of particular importance to those sovereign citizens, will be supreme - regardless of majority opinions at state and national level. This will prevent the culture war from becoming another civil war.
