Magisterarbeit aus dem Jahr 2005 im Fachbereich Didaktik für das Fach Deutsch - Gattungen, Note: 1,0 / 1,0, Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Universität Hannover, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: "Warum aber sind die Verse immer schlechter als die Musik?" fragt sich der Schauspieler Clairon in Richard Strauss' letzter Oper Capriccio, einem Werk, in dem der sich Strauss am Ende seines Lebens noch einmal mit Grundfragen der Operndichtung auseinandersetzt. Clairons Frage steht vor dem Hintergrund der Erkenntnis, daß das Finden und Verarbeiten eines geeigneten Stoffes für die Opernbühne von jeher mit vielfältigen Problemen verbunden war. Ein sehr spezielles Problem stellte sich deutschen Komponisten und Textdichtern im letzten Drittel des neunzehnten und zu Beginn des zwanzigsten Jahrhunderts. Dieses Problem bestand in der Dominanz und der Wirkungsmächtigkeit der Musikdramen Richard Wagners, die alle anderen Opern dieser Zeit zu verdrängen drohten. Die in dieser Arbeit zu untersuchende These lautet daher: Nach Wagner war es nicht möglich, unbefangen Operntexte zu schreiben und zu komponieren, weshalb über einen Zeitraum von nahezu 40 Jahren alle ernstzunehmenden Opern der Zeit nach etwa 1878 sich durch das Bemühen auszeichnen, die wagnersche Stoffwahl und Diktion zu vermeiden. Zwar wurden Wagners Innovationen auf musikalischem Gebiet stark beachtet und von allen namhaften Komponisten auf die eine oder andere Art im eigenen Werk aufgegriffen, was aber die Textbücher angeht, bestand eine große Scheu vor der direkten Nachahmung, auch aufgrund von Wagners neuartigen Qualitätsansprüchen. Bislang haben jedoch die Operntexte dieser Phase lediglich im Hinblick auf ihre Epigonalität Beachtung gefunden; das Vermeiden der Konkurrenzsituation mit Wagner ohne einen Rückschritt zu machen, wurde als künstlerische Eigenleistung, die den Werken einen Eigenwert verleiht, nicht anerkannt.
