Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2008 im Fachbereich Politik - Politische Theorie und Ideengeschichte, Note: 1,3, Universität Trier, Veranstaltung: Proseminar, 14 Quellen im Literaturverzeichnis, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: [...] Neben sozialpsychischen und sozialstrukturellen Ansätzen existiert auch der Rational Choice Ansatz, der Thema dieser Arbeit sein soll. Die Person, die diesen Ansatz wohl am meisten geprägt hat ist Anthony Downs. In seinem 1957 erschienenen Werk "Ökonomische Theorie der Demokratie" entwickelte er Hypothesen zum Verhalten politischer Akteure unter der Anwendung wirtschaftswissenschaftlicher Methoden. Im ersten Teil äußert er sich in der Einleitung zu dem Punkt "Grundlagen des Wählens" folgendermaßen: "Um ihre Politik so planen zu können, daß [sic!] sie Stimmen gewinnt, muß [sic!] die Regierung einen Zusammenhang, zwischen dem, was sie tut, und der Wahlentscheidung der Bürger finden. In unserem Modell leitet sich dieser Zusammenhang aus dem Axiom her, daß [sic!] die Bürger in der Politik rational handeln." (Downs 1968: 35). Was jedoch versteht Downs unter diesem Zusammenhang? Oder eine noch vorangestellte Frage wäre, welches Verständnis er von Rationalität hat. Wodurch zeichnet sich dann der rationale Mensch in seiner Vorstellung aus und wie überträgt er sein daraus resultierendes Menschenbild dann auf das Verhalten des Wählers? Diese Fragen sollen durch die zusammenfassende Darlegung seiner ökonomischen Theorie der Demokratie im ersten Teil dieser Arbeit geklärt werden. Weiter stellt sich aber die Frage, in welchem Maß sein Modell praktische Anwendung findet und welche Probleme dabei auftauchen. Kann ein solch positives und deduktives Modell mit seiner Sparsamkeit der Wirklichkeit gerecht werden oder kommt es zu so großen Differenzen zwischen Theorie und Realität, sodass sie ihren Anspruch auf handlungstheoretische Erklärungen für Wahlverhalten verliert (vgl. Besonders nach seiner 2014 geschriebenen Bachelorarbeit "Rom gegen Wales im 1. Jahrhundert n. Chr. Die Insel Anglesey" und seinem einsemestrigen Geschichtsstudium an der Università degli studi di Verona fasste er den Entschluss, ein Masterstudium in Geschichte anzustreben. Seine Interessensfelder speziell in der Antike sind die Grenzgebiete in allen Phasen des Imperium Romanum, die jeweiligen Ursachen und Anlässe eines militärischen Konflikts, die Motive, Verhaltens- und Vorgehensweisen der Menschen in ebensolchem Kontext sowie die Konsequenzen, die sich aus alldem ergeben.
