About the Book

The Waltz is a modern epic in verse. It describes the previously unknown events in the life of Gilgamesh. Gilgamesh is a god who became a human in order to find love on earth. In so doing, this is the tale of a god who became human in order to find himself and of the help and the humanity that he found along the way. It is a tale of the hubris of God who himself must come to earth in order to learn humility towards others. The tale begins with Gilgamesh pining for a love that isn't and he finds himself thrown out of heaven. Landing on earth, he is now mortal and subject to the vagaries of mortality, pain and suffering. The Necromancer has the capturing of Gilgamesh as his primary goal and enlists others on earth to help him. Mycenaean Queen represents the shared goal of Gilgamesh to find a love that isn't and she too is thrown out into a harsh world from the comfort of a sequestered palace. They sense each other but languish on earth subject to the vagaries of circumstance and fate. Along the way Gilgamesh meets and receives the help in his quest for a love that isn't from people such as the Hunter who's wife was captured by Necromancer. Along the way Gilgamesh keeps dreaming of a lover and a friend across some mystical mountain range but soon realizes that she is dead. Hunter and Gilgamesh team up to find their ideal lovers who have been captured by Necromancer and they receive the help of Atropine who was sacrificed by her tribe in order to appease gods such as Gilgamesh. Valkyrie too is impassioned by the quest of Gilgamesh and Hunter and she joins them in the quest for their lovers. Odalisque is a harlot who lived her life giving sex to those who controlled her but in the end she overcomes this life and is able to teach Gilgamesh the beauty of redemption. In the end, all of these individuals confront Necromancer only to face imminent defeat but are saved at the last minute by Atropine, the sacrificial woman who was melded solely for this purpose. Ultimately, God is restored and grants Gilgamesh his humanity and mortality where he is free to live with the love that he finally found on earth. Hunter saves his wife stolen by Necromancer and they too wend their way back to their former life of bliss as husband and wife. Giglamesh and Mycenaean Queen return back to her kingdom as husband and wife, lovers and friends while, at the end, Odalisque is restored her original beauty that had been ravaged by leprosy and a lifetime of pointless suffering: "With a shudder and a tremble-throb, It's that sweet-and-sour happyish; With a mutter and a treble-sob, I bid thee adieu, Gilgamesh."
