In diesem Buch wird untersucht, ob durch die Nutzung von Väterkarenz die geschlechtsspezifische Lohndiskriminierung reduziert werden kann und welche Form ein Karenzmodell haben sollte um dieses Ziel zu erreichen. Wichtig für die gesamte Untersuchung ist ein Verständnis der Lohndiskriminierung. Daher wird in Kapitel 2 der Begriff Diskriminierung erläutert und die Arten der Diskriminierung beschrieben. Auf Basis von ökonomischen Arbeitsmarktheorien und sekundär empirischen Untersuchungen (Ökonomische Theorie der Familie, Humankapitaltheorie, Segregationstheorie, Theorie über die Tastes for Discrimination, Statistische Diskriminierung) werden im dritten Kapitel verschiedene Mechanismen beschrieben, welche zu geschlechtsspezifischen Lohnunterschieden führen. Am Ende der Untersuchung kristallisieren sich einige gemeinsame Ursachen heraus. Diese Menge an Theorien wird herangezogen, um ein Gesamtbild zu erhalten. In den weiteren Kapiteln wird die mögliche Ausgestaltung der Karenzregelung sowohl theoretisch als auch empirisch fundiert untersucht, um zu einem "optimalen" Karenzmodell zu gelangen. Im Zuge der intensiven Auseinandersetzung mit der Problematik des geschlechterspezifischen Verdienstgefälles zeigt dieses Buch so einen Weg auf, diese Lohnunterschiede möglicherweise zu verringern.
About the Author: Nicole Cvitkovich, Mag., wurde 1984 in Eisenstadt geboren. Ihr Studium der Volkswirtschaft an der Wirtschaftsuniversität Wien schloss die Autorin im Jahre 2009 mit dem akademischen Grad der Magistra Rerum Socialum Oeconomicarumque ab. Während des Studiums legte sie ihren Schwerpunkt auf die heterodoxe Ökonomie. Während des Studiums entwickelte die Autorin ein besonderes Interesse an den Genderaspekten der Arbeitsmarktökonomie. Aus Beobachtungen im persönlichen Umfeld sowie aus statistischen Analysen (z.B. der geschlechtsspezifischen Lohnunterschiede) kam sie zu der Ansicht, dass in Österreich Gleichbehandlung bzw. Chancengleichheit für Frauen am Arbeitsmarkt noch nicht gegeben ist. Diese Erkenntnis motivierte die Autorin, sich der Thematik des vorliegenden Buches zu widmen.
