About the Book

English summary: This volume combines three studies of cult topographical inscriptions dating from the Late Period and the beginning of the Ptolemaic epoch. Many of the sources have either been only partly or not previously published. St. Blaschta examines basalt blocks dating from the time of Nectanebo I, which were recently discovered in Heliopolis/Matariya. The inscriptions inscribed there seem to have been taken from a text corpus that has been found at many other locations from the Late Period to the end of the Ptolemaic Period. Fr. Ghiringhelli examines the cases in which this "standard text" was used and traces their development, documenting them with the help of a synopsis. From the beginning of the Ptolemaic period at the very latest, texts were used that differ greatly from earlier inscriptions in terms of meaning and form. These become manifest for the first time in the blocks of the Amun temple in Naucratis, which was adorned under Ptolemy I. D. von Recklinghausen provides complete annotation of the text and examines, among other things, questions relating to text etching and the use of templates, especially given that the texts used in Naucratis were also used to adorn the temples of upper Egypt two hundred years later. The volume is made accessible by the inclusion of an extensive index.
