Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2017 im Fachbereich Weltgeschichte - Frühgeschichte, Antike, Note: 2,0, Universität Stuttgart (Historisches Institut), Veranstaltung: Römische Republik, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Der revolutionäre Charakter und Wirkung eines Volkstribunates unter Tiberius Gracchus um 133 vor Christus wird, wie auch Theodor Mommsen es schon charakterisierte, als Anfang der römischen Revolution oder als Revolutionsperiode betrachtet oder nach Karl Christ entschärft begutachtet, zumindest als Ausbruch der Krise in Bezug auf die römischen Bürgerkriege, der Diktatur Sullas, den Imperien Pompeius bis hin zum Triumvirat. Das Volkstribunat erlebte in dieser Phase der römischen Geschichte ein Wandel in Form einer Emanzipation oder nach Jochen Martins Worten einer Freisetzung des Tribunats vom Senat mit den Gracchen. Dennoch schien es weiterhin das "Instrument der herrschenden Schicht der Nobilität" gewesen zu sein und verlor dadurch ihre wesentliche Kernfunktion der Durchsetzung plebejischer Interessen und Rechte. Wie es auch betrachtet wird, die römische Gesellschaft erkannte erstmals eine Spaltung der politischen Haltung in zwei Lager: Optimaten und Popularen bildeten die zwei Inte-ressensgruppen der römischen Republik, ohne dabei von Parteien sprechen zu wollen. Während popular geneigte Volkstribunen, die dem Senat grundsätzlich ablehnend gegenüberstanden und sich über Plebiszite der concilia plebs definierten dennoch immer wieder aufsenatsdienliche Vereinbarungen einließen, gelang es den senatstreuen Optimaten, proplebejisch bestimmte Maßnahmen zu treffen, die dem Senat weniger gefallen konnten. Auf welcher Seite sich ein Politiker letztlich positionierte wurde weitestgehend durch ihr persönliches Interesse und der Anspruch an die individuelle Karriere bestimmt. Die Waage zwischen dem aufrührerischen Volksvertreter und dem ambitionierten, für größere Aufgaben bestimmten Politiker war sensibel.
