Já publicado primeiramente em 2010 com a GDS Edição e enfim fora do catálogo, este romance foi revisto e profundamente modificado pelo autor e na nova versão sai com Tektime.Baseia-se nas figuras do comandante adjunto Vittorio D'Aiazzo e do seu amigo Ranieri Velli, personagens que agem também noutras obras do autor. Desenrola-se no ano de 1972, depois do romance "o metro do amor tóxico" (distribuído pela Tektime), adaptado em 1969, e a história em parte desenrola em Nova Iorque e noutra parte em Turim como já citado a vicissitude da obra; encontrarão elem, junto às duas personagens principais, diversas figuras secundarias entre as quais o interessado editor Mark Lines e o gélido bilionário Donald Montgomery, director do FBI de Nova Iorque e agora membro do senado e candidato à presidência dos Estados Unidos contra o presidente cessante M. N. Richard: A noite de 30 de Março de 1972 foi morta com uma arma de fogo, durante um banquete eleitoral organizado pelo Montgomery, uma jovem, rica senhora sua potencial eleitora, mulher do riquíssimo Peter White, mulher sistematicamente adúltera que tinha amado nos anos 50 Vittorio e em 1969 Ranieri: um individuo misterioso apareceu de repente na porta da sala de jantar, depois de ter matado um guarda que o estorvava, matou a mulher e fugiu conseguindo eclipsar-se. Do assassino, mascarado na parte superior do rosto, apareceu patentes aos convidados, entre os quais Ranieri Velli que estava sentado, apenas a postura maciça, a altura modesta e a grande barba grisalha, traços característicos do comandante adjunto Vittorio D'Aiazzo; e para além disso, naquela mesma hora este não estava na Itália mas precisamente em Nova Iorque junto da sua namorada Marina Ferdi, viúva do falecido comissário Verdoni que fora vice de Vittorio; sem mais nem menos, o nome de D'Aiazzo foi incluso na lista dos convidados ao reservadíssimo banquete. À parte Ranieri Velli, cujo faz veu à amizade, as testemunhas reconhecem e indicam como assassino o comandante adjunto que foi acusado de homicídio, junto à sua namorada, do procurador de nova York Maxwell, amigo e simpatizante de Montgomery.Este último com ansiedade de demonstrar que não se tratou, como pelo contrário insinua com insistência o presidente cessante Richard, dum falso atentado à sua pessoa organizado por ele mesmo, para a campanha eleitoral, e infelizmente acabou mal pela falha do alvo do atirador. O procurador distrital intencionou completamente fazer condenar Vittorio alegando uma pressuposta causa passional, o ódio pela mulher que a tinha abandonado. O comandante adjunto e a namorada foram extraditados para nova York para o processo de instrução que, como é sabido, nos estados unidos ocorre na sala, na presença do júri e juiz. Aqui estamos ainda no princípio do romance. Varias páginas entre as sucessivas apresentam fases do debate. A jovem advogada do D'Aiazzo, a senhora Sarah Ford, conjectura em primeiro lugar um delito passional da parte do marido traído várias vezes pela vítima, o senhor White.Quanto a Ranieri Velli, desejoso de ajudar o amigo mas impossibilitado de agir pessoalmente fora da Itália, investiga mediante uma agência dos "private eyes Taylor&Taylor. Investigam informalmente também dois colaboradores de Vittorio, os comissários Aldo Moreno e Mauro Sermoni, tentando de demonstrar a inocência do superior e encontrando a um certo ponto, em Turim, um importante indício que, juntado aos dados colhidos por Ranieri e pelo advogado, levarão à solução.
