Inhaltsangabe: Einleitung: Business-to-Business (B2B) bezeichnet alle Transaktionen zwischen Unternehmen und sonstigen Organisationen. B2B-Markplätze sind virtuelle Räume im Internet, in denen sich mehrere institutionelle Anbieter und Nachfrager versammeln, um konkrete Transaktionen anzubahnen und deren direkte Abwicklung zu ermöglichen. Für den Zeitraum von November 1999 bis Juli 2000 verzeichnete Berlecon Research einen überproportionalen Anstieg der Anzahl an B2B-Marktplätzen von 34 auf 133 in Deutschland. Goldman Sachs vermutet, daß über die nächsten 20 Jahre weltweit 80% der Business-to-Business Transaktionen online abgewickelt werden. Gemäß einer von KPMG durchgeführten Studie erwarten 70% der Facilities Management Anbieter spürbare Auswirkungen des eBusiness auf ihre Branche innerhalb der nächsten 2 Jahre. Diese Beobachtungen lassen vermuten, dass sich B2B-Marktplätze auch im Rahmen des Facilities Managements als vorteilhaft erweisen könnten. Facilities Management ist einfach ausgedrückt ein Bündel von Leistungen, die an Gebäuden, Anlagen und Einrichtungen (facilities) erbracht werden, um deren Nutzungsflexibilität, Arbeitsproduktivität und Kapitalrentabilität zu verbessern. Es stellt sich die Frage, ob die Informations- und Kommunikationstechnologien von B2B-Marktplätzen ausreichen, einen „virtuellen" Facilities Manager zu schaffen. Dabei wird unter einem „virtuellen" Facilities Manager eine Website verstanden, deren Funktionalität den Benutzer zur Lösung aller Facilities Management Aufgaben befähigt. Die Facilities Management Leistung wird individuell und unter Einbeziehung von Faktoren, die sich in der Verfügungsgewalt der Nachfrager befinden, erstellt.
