Bachelorarbeit aus dem Jahr 2011 im Fachbereich Kunst - Architektur, Baugeschichte, Denkmalpflege, Note: 1,9, Technische Universität Dresden, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Die Arbeit behandelt den Villenbau der Jahrhundertwende in Dresden und geht dabei besonders auf die Beiträge des Architekturbüros Schilling &Graebner ein. Zunächst wird ein Überblick über die architektonische Beschaffenheit und städtebauliche Voraussetzung in Dresden gegeben, im Anschluss daran soll Aufschluss über die Entwicklung des Villenbaus seit den 1830er Jahren gegeben werden. Nachdem das Architekturbüro Schilling & Graebner und die Architekten selbst kurz vorgestellt werden, widmet sich der Hauptteil der Arbeit den Villenbauten Schilling & Graebners. Zunächst wird ein kurzer Überblick über die Villen allgemein und den derzeitigen Bestand gegeben, um anschließend exemplarisch auf sieben Villen, die von besonderer Bedeutung zeugen, einzugehen. Abschließend werden Problemstellungen zur Diskussion gebracht, die sich aus der Zuordnung zweier Villen zum Werk der Architekten ergaben. Bei eingehender Betrachtung der Dresdner Stadtentwicklung nach der Industrialisierung wird deutlich, dass sich die Stadt zwar, ähnlich wie vergleichbare Metropolen, Problemen des Wohnraummangels stellen musste. Einem städtischen Bebauungsplan geschuldet, fand man hier jedoch galantere Lösungen, wodurch die Stadt eine andere Entwicklung als typische Industriestädte nahm. Architekten, die in dieser Zeit einen guten Ruf genießen wollten, waren gezwungen, sich dem schnellen Wandel anzupassen und mit den verschiedenen stilistischen Prägungen vertraut zu sein, um nicht als rückständig geltend in der Masse unterzugehen. So gehörten auch die Architekten Rudolf Schilling und Julius Graebner, die sich Ende der 1880er im Architekturbüro Schilling & Graebner zusammenschlossen, zu denen, die sich zum Wechsel des Jahrhunderts in Dresden behaupten mussten.
