Este segundo volumen de la colección está dedicado a la resistencia de los últimos emperadores incas. Tras la caída de Atahualpa en Cajamarca y la conquista de Cuzco por Francisco Pizarro, el inca Túpac Amaru encabezó la marcha de su pueblo hacia la última provincia de su Imperio que quedaba libre: el Antisuyu, que se extendía al este de las cumbres andinas, por un territorio inóspito y selvático. Ahí, en lo más profundo de la maraña vegetal del Amazonas, creó un reino neoinca para resistir frente al invasor: Vilcabamba.

Durante varias décadas, Vilcabamba fue la base de partida y el refugio de los guerreros incas que se empeñaron en una verdadera guerra de guerrillas contra el invasor de su antiguo Imperio, ahora convertido en virreinato del Perú. Y fue también la última esperanza de un pueblo, el último lugar en el que podían orar a sus dioses y sentirse libres mientras todo lo que habían conocido se desmoronaba.

Hoy pocos han oído hablar del reino neoinca de Vilcabamba: la historia la escriben los vencedores y a estos no les gusta hablar de sus derrotas. Pero Vilcabamba existió, y fue un soplo de coraje y valor en tiempos muy oscuros. Esta es su historia.
