Émile Sicard, né en 1879 et décédé en 1921, était un poète marseillais qui a célébré sa ville natale à travers ses oeuvres. Parmi ses écrits, on trouve des poèmes dédiés au Vieux-Port, l'emblème même de Marseille, également connue sous le nom de la Cité Phocéenne. Marseille est une ville avec une histoire riche, étant l'un des ports les plus anciens de France, et elle a souvent été une source d'inspiration pour des artistes, des écrivains et des poètes. Dans le contexte de l'époque d'Émile Sicard, le Vieux-Port de Marseille était encore plus un centre névralgique de la vie marseillaise qu'il ne l'est aujourd'hui. C'était un lieu de commerce, de pêche et de sociabilité, reflétant la diversité et le dynamisme de la ville.
