Mi piace viaggiare e, finché ce la faccio, mi piace visitare luoghi e Paesi in veloce trasformazione. Ci sono parti del mondo che si stanno evolvendo a ritmi impressionanti verso una omologazione al mondo occidentale al quale siamo abituati. Solo andandoci in tempo si possono raccogliere brandelli della loro storia.Basta poco. Basta la costruzione di una strada in una regione remota e il progresso irrompe inarrestabile. Basta un ripetitore radiotelefonico e Facebook sconvolge un intero paese.D'altra parte non possiamo certo pretendere che il progresso tocchi noi e non alcune zone, solo perché ci piace viaggiare "nel tempo".Così fu per il mio viaggio in Vietnam, nel 2004. Ho scoperto, con sorpresa, un Paese in corsa, sospeso fra le antiche tradizioni ed il progresso inteso come ricerca del benessere.Nulla a che fare con i ricordi del '68. La guerra, le marce della pace, l'offensiva del Tet, i cunicoli di CuChi, i bombardamenti dei B-52, i vietcong. Lì quella guerra è solo un ricordo per i vecchi. Business is business.Questo volumetto non è una guida. Non ci troverete nomi di alberghi o di ristoranti, indicazioni di shopping o itinerari consigliati. Per questo ci sono le guide, sempre aggiornate.Troverete solo ricordi, aneddoti di un bel viaggio, suggestioni sui luoghi che spero siano rimasti gli stessi. Riflessioni sul rapporto che i vietnamiti avevano e, probabilmente, hanno ancora con il lungo conflitto che lì si svolse negli anni '60 e '70 e con il gigante americano.Sono rimasti vividi i luoghi, le persone indaffarate, il negozio del vecchio barbiere con attrezzi antidiluviani che opera all'aperto, perché la bottega è piena di confezioni di lettori di DVD che il figlio, giovane leone, ha comprato in blocco ed intende vendere facendoci un bel guadagno. Le nuvole di motorini, lo smog di Saigon che ti prende alla gola. Il non ricordo della guerra. I noodles con i frutti di mare, i cibi più strani, il sincretismo religioso quasi surreale con Buddha e la Madonna nella stessa chiesa. Il maialino da latte arrostito e donato alla divinità, ma per sole sei ore, poi i monaci lo mangeranno perché non è bene che ai piedi delle divinità ci sia carne in decomposizione. Le grosse, basse e panciute anfore piene di sabbia su cui piantare i bastoncini di incenso piccoli come matite o grossi come tronchi d'albero. Un popolo che corre. Che, almeno, allora correva verso un desiderato benessere. Chissà come è ora, chissà se lo ha trovato. Dieci anni son tanti, magari la spiaggia quasi solitaria di Hoi An dove l'ex-marine raccontava le sue epiche gesta si sarà trasformata nella spiaggia privata di un Grand Hotel a otto stelle. Forse si organizzeranno corse in motoscafo lungo il Mekong senza pensare a quell'invalicabile confine che, allora, mi turbò. Forse le tessitrici dei multicolori vestiti delle montagne del nord adesso fanno venire i loro capi dalle fabbriche cinesi. Chissà, il mondo non è solo spazio, è anche tempo, e questo sì che corre.......Molte sono le mie fotografie inserite che descrivono, meglio delle parole, i luoghi visitati e le persone incontrate.Buona lettura.
